District Court Throws Out One Count Of Jover Laurio’s Libel Lawsuit Against Franco Mabanta

5F84C86D-9FC1-41F4-8659-DFE5D50C977BMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –Subject to fact-checking by Rappler and Vera Files — A local district court has dismissed one of four counts of a lawsuit filed by Jover Laurio, the woman behind Pinoy Ako Blog against political-social commentator Franco Mabanta.

Laurio sued  for four counts of libel, including one resulting from a Facebook post by Mabanta where he made fun of her appearance.

In its ruling, the court said, “Beauty lies in the beholder.  What one may consider beautiful may be ugly to another.  We cannot hold Mabanta liable for his perception of beauty.  Besides, that’s his opinion, and this Court does not have jurisdiction over people’s opinions.”

We tried to reach Laurio and Mabanta for comment, but both their cell phones seemed to have run out of battery.

Xander Ford before and after, left, and Vicki Belo of Belo Medical Group

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If you’re going shopping in the Summer Capital of the Philippines, you no longer have the choice of “paper or plastic.”  Thanks to a new ordinance banning the use by businesses of non-biodegradable bags and containers.

But an obscure provision of the new law also bans visitors to Baguio who have undergone any form of plastic surgery.

”It’s a total war to protect our environment,” Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan told The Adobo Chronicles.

We guess we’ll not see the likes of Xander Ford and clients of Vicki Belo and her medical group in Baguio ever!

Rumors have it that Pinoy Ako Blog’s Jover Laurio has decided not to undergo plastic surgery because she loves visiting Baguio.

71-Year-Old Australian Nun Marries 35-Year-Old Filipino Priest, Avoids Deportation

3C17D815-625E-4573-96E6-63729BB87DCC.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – She violated the law and the conditions of her temporary stay in the Philippines.  Now, she is using the law to avoid deportation.

Sr. Patricia Fox, a 71-year-old Missionary nun was ordered deported after violating Philippine immigration law that prohibits foreign visitors from participating in political activity while in the country.  She was supposed to have left on May 25 but the timeline was extended to June 18.

But Fox is not waiting for June 18.  She practically avoided immediate deportation by marrying a 35-year-old Filipino priest.  That marriage entitles her to apply for Filipino citizenship after 5 years — that is, when she turns 76.

The Adobo Chronicles could not verify if the Filipino priest had left the ministry.  But we think so since Catholic priests are not allowed to marry.  We also don’t know if this was a case of love at first sight.
