Toyota Car Owners To Stage EDSA Protest Motorcade Over Proposed Ban

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Got a Furtuner or a Corolla?

A traffic scheme that would ban certain car brands from EDSA on specific days is being proposed to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to address traffic congestion.

Former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation consultant Ariston Gorospe submitted his proposed “vehicular brand reduction program” to the MMDA just days after the agency publicized another proposal – making EDSA a one-way road – which commuters and a senator called “ridiculous and not well thought of.”

It is estimated that more than half of all private vehicles that ply Metro Manila’s thoroughfares are Toyotas, and the proposal didn’t sit well with the car owners. They said they were bieng discriminated agianst because of their car brand of choice.

Gorospe’s proposal would ban Toyotas from EDSA on Mondays.

Today, the Metro Manila Association of Toyota Car Owners (MMATCA) announced that its members will stage an all-day protest motorcade along the entire stretch of EDSA this coming Monday to show their objection to the proposed ban.  The Toyotans hope to put EDSA traffic on standstill.

Forget about people power. Here comes car power!

Senator Manny Pacquiao Proposes Amendment To Hontiveros’ SOGIE Bill

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Two Philippine Senators on opposite sides of the aisle have come together to try to pass a string and truly effective Bill — SOGIE.

SOGIE, of course is the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression bill which seeks to protect members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) from discriminatory acts, similar to what happened with transgender woman Gretchen Custodio Diez. Diez was prevented from using the ladies’ restroom at a shopping mall in Cubao, Quezon City. A video tape of her encounter with a mall janitress and security guard has gone viral and has generated an emotional public outcry from both LGBT supporters and critics.

It is a known fact that Pacquiao is not a fan of the homosexual lifestyle, often invoking the bible to justify his stance. Hontiveros, on the other hand, is seen as an advocate pf LGBT rights.

In the interest of national unity, Pacquiao promised to fully support Hontiveros’ SOGIE bill with one amendment: to ban all urinals in public restrooms throughout the country.

The champion boxer-turned-Senator told The Adobo Chronicles that if we eliminated the one cause of the controversy — the male urinals — then the problem will be solved. “One for all, all for one,” he said about just maintaining toilet stalls with doors and locksmon public restrooms.

“This is true equality,” Pacquiao added.

Senator Risa Hontoveros’ Compromise Over Reinstatement Of Death Penalty

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros has made herself clear about the reinstatement of the death penalty for heinous crimes in the Philippines, saying it’s not a deterrent to crime. She is opposed to it.

But Hontiveros seems to have softened her stance.

This, after President Duterte signed the law creating the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).

The lady Senator says that she will support the death penalty bill with a compromise proposal: instead of sending convicted criminals to the electric chair, “we should send them to space.”

Her idea is for death row inmates to acompany unmanned rocket ships that will be launched by the new space agency. “It will be a one-way trip to space for these crminals,” Hontiveros said. “It will be a kinder, gentler way of imposing the capital punishment.”
