Finally, An Exclusive Plan To Solve EDSA Traffic

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – They’ve tried almost everything to solve the nagging traffic problem on EDSA: coding, yellow lanes, banning single occupancy vehicles. They’re even trying to ban provincial buses along the entire stretch of the thoroughfare. To no avail.

Now, the technocratcs at the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) — with full backing from Senator Grace Poe — will start implementing a new, exclusive plan to decongest EDSA, and all it takes is to reroute city buses.

Under the plan,  which takes effect next Monday, city buses headed towards Quezon City from Makati, will make a detour away from EDSA and into one of Metro Manila’s exclusive, gated subdivisions, the Corinthian Gardens (located next to the People Power monument on EDSA).

Poe told The Adobo Chronicles that the new plan proves her `point that no emergency powers are needed to solve EDSA’s traffic problem,  just some common sense planning.

Corinthian Subdivision homeowners are planning to sue MMDA in order to stop the planned detour which they said infringes on their Constitutional right to peace and privacy.

Senator Risa Hontiveros Renames SOGIE Bill To Be More Inclusive

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) bill proposed by Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros  has backfired.

It was meant to be more inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community when it comes to outlawing discriminatory practices based on gender, race, age, health status, etc. etc.

But the bill has alienated biological women who claim their own rights to privacy and comfort in using public restrooms are under attack.

As a compromise to move her bill forward and to make it more incusive of the wider spectrum of Philippine society, Hontiveros has amended the title of her bill from SOGIE to LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ bill.

The Adobo Chronicles reached out to GABRIELA and other womens’s (and men’s) organizations for comment but has not received any response as of press time.

Alcatraz: Senator Risa Hontiveros’ Alternative To Death Penalty Bill

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – While many legislators are pretty much focused on reinstating the death penalty in the Philippines, Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros has proposed a more humane alternative.

Hontiveros wants  convicted murderers, rapists and others convicted of heinous crimes to be “deported” to San Francisco and be forever locked up in a solitary cell on Alcatraz island.

Alcatraz, of course, is recognized worldwide as the “prison of no escape.”

The lady Senator unveiled her proposed bill a day after Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri filed Senate Bill No. 1004 seeking to establish maximum security prisons in isolated and uninhabited islands for heinous crime convicts and high-risk prisoners.

Zubiri filed the bill in the wake of the near release of rape and murder convict Antonio Sanchez, a former mayor of Calauan in Laguna, under the good conduct time allowance (GCTA).

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Hontiveros said her office will work to draw up a Memo of Agreement with U.S. authorities to allocate a certain number of prison cells in Alcatraz for high-profile Filipino convicts, possibly including Sanchez.

Hontiveros’ legislative staff, however, seem  to have failed to do basic research about Alcatraz.

Alcatraz today is no longer a prison but a national recreation area managed by the National Park Service  — a popular destination for tourists visiting the San Francisco Bay Area.
