Adobo Chronicles’ Guide To Mutual Respect And Decency On Social Media

IMG_1932MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – We may be of different political leanings, but we can always agree to disagree, and do so in a respectful and decent manner.

The pro-Aquino/Liberal Party and pro-Duterte folks have been hurling the terms ‘ Yellowtards’ and ‘Dutertards’ at each other for a long time now.  These are words that are derogatory for real people who suffer health-related developmental challenges, so we should refrain from using them when debating on social media.

As a public service, The Adobo Chronicles has come up with a simple guide to mutual respect and decency on social media and we hope that all Filipino netizens, whether they are pro or anti-Duterte, follow these simple rules:

AVOID USING ‘YELLOWTARDS’

Instead, use: Yellow Corn, Jaundiced, or Yellow Ribbon.  When inclined to use photos or graphics to criticize the anti-Duterte folks, use any of these:

AVOID USING ‘DUTERTARDS’

Instead, use: Red Rice, Sapin-Sapin. When inclined to use photos or graphics to criticize the pro-Duterte folks, use any of these:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: When using images of sapin-sapin, only use photos bearing the colors red, white, blue and yellow which are the colors of the Philippine flag.)

As for Filipino Americans, refrain from naming Presidents Duterte and Trump directly. Instead, say ‘Darna’ for Duterte, and ‘Wonder Woman’ for Trump.

Please feel free to share these simple guidelines to those who you think need it, and need it badly!

When A President Misspells A Word

IMG_1838WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – No other president in history has ever been so careless in his tweets, often misspelling words that kids easily ace in the National Spelling Bee. Like Donald Trump. Like ‘covfefe.’

Trump’s tweet has gone viral but no one has dared to correct his spelling.

Well, we will.

The correct spelling is ‘cofveve.’ It means to have coffee ☕️  first and converse later.

Let’s hope Trump can correctly pronounce ‘nuclear,’ unlike that other President who says it the ‘nucular’ way.

Calling the attention of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos!

New York Times: Philippines Is A Killer Country!

IMG_1378NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Remember that New York Times editorial asking the world to condemn Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte?

Of course we all know that the basis of the editorial was a complaint filed before the International Criminal Court (ICC) by a fame-hugging Filipino lawyer who represents a perjured witness.  It all boils down to NYT’s assertion — based on news reports it mimics– that Duterte is a “killer.”

Well, NYT went a step further.

In a recent headline, the Pulitzer Prize-winning publication accused the entire country of being a killer! Just like its president.

It’s all in the headline…

(Oh, in case you haven’t noticed, the news report was about the Philippine House of Representatives.  Yet NYT chose to use an accompanying photo featuring some woman.  No, the woman was not a killer).
