MAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – On Monday, Filipino Congressman Joey Sarte filed a resolution in Manila’s House of Representatives that seeks to permanently ban U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from entering the country following his campaign speech last week where a he named the Philippines as one of the “terrorist nations.”

During a rally in Portland, Maine, Trump announced that immigrants came to the U.S. legally and then plotted to murder Americans. He said that countries like the Philippines, Somalia, Syria, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Yemen were sending such people to the U.S. and called them “terrorist nations.”

“We’re letting people come in from terrorist nations that shouldn’t be allowed because you can’t vet them,” the real estate mogul said.

In the upper chamber, Senator Manny Pacquiao filed a separate resolution that would authorize the government to build a wall around the 56-storey Trump Tower in Makati City.  The residential building is set to open at the end of this year and is one of the international real estate projects of the Trump Organization.

In a statement issued to the press, Pacquiao said that the wall will ensure that Donald Trump will not be able to sneak into the property, in the event that his arrival in the Philippines is not detected by the country’s Bureau of Immigration.

“As a persona non grata, Trump should be barred from entering the Philippines or accessing his property in the country,” Pacquiao said.

In addition to the wall, Pacquiao’s resolution also mandates that the property be patrolled 24/7 by the Philippine National Police.

MAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – When completed by the end of 2016, the Trump Tower in the Philippines will be among the country’s tallest buildings.  But the Trump name may disappear from this upscale residential building.

Launched in 2012, Trump Tower is a joint venture between Century Properties and the Trump Organization. It will be managed by Century Properties Management Inc. To rise at 250 meters above ground, the 56-story building is designed by award-winning international architectural firm Broadway Malyan.

“It’s really just an iconic, modern building, very tall, very chic, something that really symbolizes everything that a Trump project means,” said Eric Trump, son of Donald, and executive vice president of development and acquisition.

It is located at the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Salamanca Street in Makati City.

But today, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued an executive order canceling the building permit of the Trump Tower.

Duterte called Donald Trump and his organization “persona non grata” for the Republican presidential candidate’s recent comments about the Philippines.

It will be recalled that in one of his campaign speeches, Trump lumped the Philippines with other countries with terrorism links, calling for the banning Filipinos from immigrating to the United States.  Duterte even challenged Trump to a fist fight.

“If we, Filipinos, are not welcome in the United States, why would we welcome Trump in the Philippines,” Duterte said.

Asked by The Adobo Chronicles what the Philippine government plans to do with the Trump Tower, Duterte replied, “I will make it a rehabilitation center for the more than half a million Filipino drug users who surrendered as part of my war on drugs.”

Donald Trump Apologizes To Filipinos For ‘Terrorist’ Comment

image.jpegNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – In a rare public display of vulnerability and fear, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump apologized to the Filipino people for his comment linking their country to terrorism.

In a recent anti-immigration speech in Maine, Trump has lumped the Philippines among “terrorist nations” from where people should be denied entry to the United States.

Trump, in a statement released today, said that his campaign interns fed him the wrong information, leading him to believe that the entire Philippines was a Muslim country and that it was one of the Republics located in the Middle East.

Many believe that the apology was part of the Trump campaign’s damage control efforts to regain the millions of potential Filipino American votes the candidate may have lost as a result of his ‘terrorist’ comment.

Others, however, think that what prompted Trump to finally apologize was Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s challenge to engage the Republican candidate to a fistfight. That may be too much for Trump to handle.
