Philippine Media Outlets Apologize To President Duterte For Misquoting Him

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The damage has been done. It has culminated in U.S. President Barack Obama canceling his meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the ASEAN Summit in Laos.  All because local media outlets misquoted Duterte.  And the foreign media picked it up.

At issue was the response by Duterte to a reporter question during which the Philippine president supposedly called Obama “son of a bitch” or “son of a whore.”

But thanks to the magic of video recording and Internet sharing, the world now knows that Duterte was indeed misquoted.

Independent reviews of the tape confirmed that the curse was not directly intended at Obama.  Some expert language analysis of the tape point to Duterte hurling the expletive at reporters and columnists.

Today, the Coalition of News Media Outlets of the Philippines (CNMOP) issued a formal joint apology to Duterte for their malicious misquoting of the president.  “Our members in the news media simply wanted to improve their ratings and declining popularity,” a CNMOP spokesperson said. “We promise to do a better job next time.”

Meanwhile, several U.S. other foreign news organizations announced they were hiring Tagalog-speaking newsroom staff so that they could be more accurate in their reporting of news about Duterte.

All’s well that ends well.

Donald Trump To Meet With Philippine President Duterte

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Just hours after The White House announced that President Barack Obama had cancelled his meeting in Laos with Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he is meeting the tough-talking Philippine president next week.

Obama cancelled his meeting with Duterte following statements from the Filipino leader that he will not entertain any questions from the U.S. regarding alleged human rights violations related to his domestic war on drugs.

Trump said, “Well, if Obama is not willing to talk to Duterte, then I will. Let’s see who is the better diplomat, Obama or I !”

It will be recalled that Trump recently visited Mexico and personally met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, the day before he delivered his major immigration policy speech in Arizona.

“I think Duterte and I will get along well together,” Trump said. “He can curse me all he wants.  It wouldn’t bother me.  Together, we can make both America and the Philippines great again.”

In a previous campaign speech, Trump lumped the Philippines with countries that harbor terrorists.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Philippines: Severe Shortage Of Laundry Detergent Bars

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Remember your grandma’s old-fashioned laundry detergent bars she used to manually wash your clothes?  Well, they’re baaaack!

Unfortunately, there is a severe shortage of these white or blue bars in stores and supermarkets in the Philippines, thanks to a new ruling by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA has issued a final rule establishing that over-the-counter (OTC) consumer antiseptic wash products containing certain active ingredients can no longer be marketed. Companies will no longer be able to market antibacterial washes with these ingredients because manufacturers did not demonstrate that the ingredients are both safe for long-term daily use and more effective than plain soap and water in preventing illness and the spread of certain infections. Some manufacturers have already started removing these ingredients from their products.

Since the ruling was made public, many Filipino households have been ditching their high-priced OTC anti-bacterial soaps in favor of the detergent bars.

One bar does it all: washing hands, cleaning dishes, doing laundry.  Even taking a shower. How cool is that?

What is your favorite detergent bar? Wheel? Ajax? Tide?
