MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Burereau) – The Philippines formally rejected at least P380 million (6.1 million euros) in aid from the European Union, Ambassador Franz Jessen confirmed Wednesday, January 24. Jessen is the head of the EU Delegation to the Philippines.
But what the Mainstream News Media are not reporting was that despite this rejection, President Rodrigo Duterte has offered to send a high-level expert team from the Philippines to the EU.
”It’s a gift from the Filipino people to EU,” Duterte reportedly told Jessen.
The expert team is composed of Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Antonio Trillanes, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, Commissioner on Human Rights Chito Gaston and Rappler CEO Maria Ressa.
Duterte urged EU to utilize this team in whatever way it deems appropriate.
Asked if Duterte set any conditions for the gift, Jessen said ‘Yes. No return, no exchange.’
What a generous president we have!
