Filipinos To Burn Star Trek DVDs To Protest George Takei’s Tweet On The Philippines

6AD1CDB2-C0CB-4FFE-A50A-F6BDBFAEC823.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles,Manila Bureau) – Many Filipinos are fans of ‘Star Trek,’ especially of George Takei who originated the role of Mr. Sulu in this Science Fantasy series.  Thousands upon thousands have prized collections of ‘Star Trek’ DVDs (and Betamax tapes).

But these collections will soon go up in flames, thanks to a single tweet by Takei.

In a Twitter post, Takei said:

Takei’s tweet didn’t sit well with many Filipinos, especially the supporters of their popular president, Rodrigo Duterte.

They took to Facebook and other social media platforms to refute Takei’s statement, saying that while it is true that Duterte was democratically elected, Filipinos don’t live in fear or have been called upon to incite or commit violence. They also said all Democratice safeguards, including a Free Press and independent Legislative and Judicial branches of government are very much in place.

In a show of People Power, hundreds of thousands of Filipinos will stage a huge rally this weekend along EDSA ,the epicenter of mass protests, where they will burn DVD and betamax copies of their Star Trek collections, but only those in which Takei plays Mr. Sulu.  Star Trek versions featuring John Cho playing the character will be spared.

You don’t mess with Filipinos.  Not even if you are Mr. Sulu.

Adobo Chronicles Fact Checks Leni Robredo’s Washington, D.C. Statement

744EBB6E-52B1-4FEA-95F7-2D002C6D5EAACLAIM: In a response to question about Marawi, during Leni Robredo’s appearance at a forum sponsored by the Center for Stretegic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C., she stated that her office (Office of the Vice President) “has been there during the first day of the siege,” setting up “relief operation.”

FACT: What proof do we need that Robredo’s statement was an outright lie?  How could her office be there on the first day of the siege?  Did she have advanced information that the siege was going to happen that day?  Was her office already IN Marawi when the siege happened? How can her office set up relief operation on the first day of the siege when no one even knew if there would be casualties, injuries or citizens displaced who would need help?  Whose crystal ball did OVP use?

We found this news report where Robredo “ordered’ her staff to “start” relief operations for Marawi siege victims.  It was dated May 24, a day AFTER the start of the siege.  But we can’t imagine that the OVP,  which does not have resources or local staff to deal with situations like this, was able to set up the relief operations within hours or days.  It would take weeks before it could organize the operation and gather relief goods or set up relief services.

Our verdict:

Electronic Travel Visa Waiver To U.S. Now Available!

6619EBAF-F255-4298-BB42-C76A8814B4DF.jpegWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Wanting to travel to the United States but don’t have a visa?

Certain countries are part of the Visa Waiver Program in which their citizens are not required to obtain a visa to visit the United States for tourism, business, transit, medical and short study purposes for up to 90 days per visit.

Then there’s also a convenient way to secure a visa waiver — electroncally.  It’s called ESTA or Electronic System for Travel Authorization.

Among those eligible for ESTA are Philippians, by virtue of their being Greek citizens who are entitled to the visa waiver.

Philippi, is a hill town of Kavála, Greece, overlooking the coastal plain and the bay at Neapolis.

Now, that’s different than the Philippines, even if its citizens are mistakenly referred to as Philippinos.
