DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipinos both in the Philippines and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are not happy about reports that balut, the popular boiled fertilized duck egg, is being banned upon entry into Dubai.

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai has warned arriving Filipinos in the UAE to refrain from bringing balut not only because it will be confiscated but could also delay  the immigration process at the airport.

Reacting to the news, a national coalition of Philippine relatives of UAE Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) has scheduled a “people power” protest this weekend to be held at Rizal Park (Luneta).  The group expects a million people to participate in the protest.

A spokesperson for the coalition told The Adobo Chronicles that the UAE should “leave our balut alone.” It is the greatest source of Filipino pride and sustenance.  It warned that OFWs in Dubai will stage a city-wide strike if the ban continues.

“What will the UAE ban next? Tuyo and danggit ?”  (salted dried fish) the spokesperson asked.

LONDON, United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – The British government today issued a clarification regarding a news report published in the Da1lymail.com that Filipinos are now eligible to visit the United Kingdom without obtaining a visa.

The report stated that newly-appointed British Prime Minister Theresa May had announced a new visa policy for 3 countries that included the Philippines, Republic of South Africa and Rwanda.

The decision reportedly took into consideration the Socio-Economic, Political, Foreign and Human Rights Policies instituted over the past 60 months by the named countries.

Today, however, the Office of the British Prime Minister clarified that the news report is not entirely true, saying that only Filipino citizens who speak with a British accent are eligible for the new visa-free policy.

So, Pinoys, it’s time to practice your British accent!

Donald Trump Agrees To Take Naturalization Test, Fails

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Recently, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced that, if elected president, he would enact an extreme “vetting” test to determine if the values of those seeking to enter the U.S. are so-called American values. He claims his test would expose those who have “hostile attitudes” towards America.

Reacting to his statement, Senator Harry Reid challenged Trump to take the current naturalization test immigrants must pass to become U.S. citizens before he tries advocate for any more hateful laws.

Encouraged by his wife Melania, as well as his campaign staff, Trump accepted Reid’s challenge and visited an immigration office in downtown Washington.

Trump was asked 20 random questions from the list of 100 that’s included in the U.S. citizenship exam.

The result? Trump got 5 correct answers.

He failed.

The Trump campaign said that because their candidate was busy with his many speaking engagements, he didn’t have time to read the pocket constitution that was loaned to him by Khizr Khan, whose son, Capt. Humayun Khyan was killed in the line of duty trying to save the lives of his fellow U.S. soldiers in Iraq back in 2004.
