PHILIPPINES BAGS ANOTHER WORLD RECORD: TWEET CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Philippines is unstoppable in laying claim to world records, and this nation of 100 Million people just added another feather to its cap.

First, the country was declared selfie capital of the world, particularly Makati City, recording the highest (per capita) number of selfies posted on social media.

Just last weekend, the Philippine Arena with a capacity of 60,000 was inaugurated. It is now considered the world’s largest indoor arena, putting to shame Los Angeles’ Staples Center and New York’s Madison Square Garden.

On Monday, the Philippines broke another world record and was named the Tweet Capital of the World.

Twitter records show that worldwide, people send an average of 500 Million tweets a day.

On Monday, Twitter recorded 1 Billion tweets in the Philippines alone, twice the worldwide daily numbers. Monday, of course, was the day that President NoyNoy Aquino delivered his 5th State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Filipinos were tweeting at a rate of  one per five minutes, commenting on Aquino’s  almost two-hour rambling as well as critiquing  the gowns worn on the red carpet by lady senators, congressmen, spouses and SONA guests. Even senators, congressmen and government officials were caught on camera, tweeting away while inside the Assembly Hall, oblivious of the man at the podium they have come to listen to.

We say again, ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines!’

REALITY CHECK: PRESIDENT AQUINO’S STATE OF THE NATION ADDRESS IN PICTURES

Manila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – As a public service to our readers and followers, The Adobo Chronicles is highlighting key points of President NoyNoy Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday. We are quoting Aquino’s message in its official English translation and have decided to interpret them through photographs:

On Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)

Capture“Your government wasted no time in responding. We immediately cleared the airport, which is why, within 24 hours after the storm, three C130s were able to bring in aid. On that same day, we were also able to set up a communications hub to hasten the flow of information. On the second day, the Department of Health’s Rapid Health Assessment teams arrived, as well as additional soldiers, policemen, and BFP personnel from other provinces. Likewise, workers from DSWD lead relief operations—in the distribution centers in Eastern Visayas or in repacking centers all around the country.”

On Poverty

Children Search Squatter Camp Garbage Dump, Philippines “We are investing in our most valuable resource: The Filipino people. Data from the National Economic Development Authority attests to our success. According to them, the 27.9 percent poverty rate during the first semester of 2012 went down to 24.9 percent for the same period in 2013. These three percentage points are equivalent to 2.5 million Filipinos who have crossed the poverty line.”

lack-of-classroomsOn Classroom Shortage: “The inherited backlog in books, chairs, and classrooms: erased; while we are working to fulfill the new needs brought about by the implementation of K to 12.” Students “no longer have to study in overcrowded classrooms.”
interphoto_1405356192On Government Spending of Taxpayer Money: “In addition to the national integrity we have restored is the world’s recognition of a new Philippines. The nation’s coffers, which come from the sweat of our citizens, are being spent only for their benefit.”
fortune-tellerOn Disaster Preparedness and Modern Forecasting System:  “Let us remember: God proposes, but man disposes. This is likewise the idea behind our efforts for disaster preparedness. We are strengthening the capabilities of our LGUs, (Local Government Units) who are the frontliners in times of disasters, through a modern and comprehensive forecasting system. “

OPRAH WINFREY VERY NERVOUS ABOUT THE LAUNCH OF SARAH PALIN’S ONLINE NETWORK

Los Angeles, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Oprah Winfrey is the undisputed “Queen of All Media, with a career spanning many decades, and personal accomplishments that would put Donald Trump to shame.

The 60-year old Winfrey is not only a talk show host, but an actress, producer and philanthropist.  She is acclaimed as the most influential woman in the world. When Oprah cries, everybody cries! One of her latest career milestones was the establishment of her own television network, OWN, or Oprah Winfrey Network.

The Adobo Chronicles has learned that Winfrey is very nervous about the recent launching of the Sarah Palin Network. “Tired of media filters? Well, so am I,” the former Alaska governor proclaimed Sunday on her Facebook page. “So let’s go rogue and launch our own member-supported channel. “

Palin’s internet video channel is accessible to both fans and critics at a subscription rate of $9.99 a month. The former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor described her new channel as a “community” where she and viewers can share ideas. “I want to talk to directly to you on our channel on my terms and no need to please the powers that be,” she says, promising to go beyond soundbites and to “cut through the media’s politically correct filter.”

Winfrey told The Adobo Chronicles that she has never been so challenged by anyone in her entire life, much less from a rifle-carrying hockey mom. She is running scared that the launch of the Palin channel will be the beginning of the downfall of the Winfrey media empire. “When you have Americans believing the unintelligible soundbites and wacky opinions from the likes of Palin, America has a big problem,” Winfrey said.  “And when such wackery is given a bully pulpit via the ever-expanding world of social media, the threat to America’s sanity becomes even more real.”

Asked if she had any plans to counter Palin’s latest move, the billionaire Winfrey said she will purchase all available subscription spots on the Palin network, then block all content from reaching its intended audience. “In effect, Palin would be broadcasting only to me,” Winfrey added.

Now we know who the real diva is!
