Philexit: Yellow Celebrities Launch Petition To Secede From The Philippines

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – First, there was Brexit — the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union (EU).  Then, there’s Texit — conservative Texans plotting to secede from the United States.  Now, there’s Philexit.

Loyal followers of outgoing President NoyNoy Aquino and the Yellow Party (Liberal Party) can’t fathom their devastating defeat in the May presidential elections that saw a landslide victory for Davao City Mayor Rod Duterte. So they’re plotting to separate themselves from the incoming government.

While defeated LP presidential candidate Mar Roxas has been quiet since the elections, celebrity fans led by Cynthia Patag, Jim Paredes, Carlos Celdran and Leah Navarro have drafted a petition seeking to leave the Philippine Republic and form their own autonomous government. They will soon post the petition and are asking concerned Filipinos to sign online.

The quartet was encouraged by Duterte’s decision to make Davao City the seat of his administration. “We can then make Manila the seat of the Yellow government,” they said.

The Philexit was obviously inspired by this week’s historic referendum in the United Kingdom in which majority voted to leave the 26-member EU.

Philexit’s goal is to gather 25 million signatures, after which the petition will be submitted to Congress to pass a law approving the secession.

Inn That Was Site Of Stonewall Riots To Stop Serving Alcohol, Thanks To President Obama

image.jpegNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – President Barack Obama announced Friday he was designating the Stonewall Inn in New York City and surrounding areas as the country’s first national monument to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights.

“This week I’m designating the Stonewall National Monument as the newest addition to America’s national park system,” Obama said in a video released by the White House. “I believe our national parks should reflect the full story of our country — the richness and diversity and uniquely American spirit that has always defined us, that we are stronger together. That out of many, we are one,” Obama said.

The White House said the monument would encompass Christopher Park, the Stonewall Inn and the surrounding streets and sidewalks that were the sites of the 1969 Stonewall uprising.

A police raid on Stonewall Inn made history in 1969 when patrons fought back.  The arrest of many Stonewall patrons that day prompted people to protest outside the bar for weeks, leading to the first march for gay and lesbian rights in July of 1969. Those protests are credited as the turning point for LGBT rights in the United States.

Following the Obama announcement, Stonewall Inn and Bar informed its patrons that it will stop serving alcohol immediately in deference to it being designated as a national monument.

National Parks Service rules prohibit the consumption of alcohol in designated national parks and monuments.

Non-alcoholic drinks will still be served, according to Stonewall Inn.

Media Got It All Wrong: U.K. Not Leaving EU After Alll

image.jpegLONDON, United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – The news that sent shockwaves across the globe on Brexit have been inaccurately reported by the media.

Headlines flashed across broadcast, print and digital media outlets yesterday that the U.K. has voted to leave the European Union (EU), prompting British Prime Minister David Cameron to announce that he was stepping down.  Cameron had called for the referendum and was on the side of those wanting to stay in the Union.

But apparently, the vote was not about leaving EU but the United Nations.  Only FOX News accurately reported the results of the vote.

This comes a relief to many who have wondered about the political, social and economic future of the UK if it left the EU.
