BREAKING: U.S. Citizens Now Need A Visa and $10,000 To Visit Philippines

img_6490BEIJING, China (The Adobo Chronicles, Tokyo Bureau) – Filipinos, no more the little brown brothers of America. With no equal benefits.

Speaking to the Filipino community in China’s capital on Wednesday, Phi lipping President Rodrigo Roa Duterte complained that Americans can enter the Philippines visa-free while Filipinos have a hard time securing a travel document to visit the US.

Duterte said he was once denied a US visa when he planned to visit a girlfriend in college. He narrated that he was asked what would happen if he decided to marry and stay in the US, to which he replied,  ‘Mr. Consul, even if you offer me free visas for a lifetime and even if you offer me 10,000 dollars, I’d still return to my country and be a Filipino.’

So now, it’s time for reckoning.

Effective immediately, all US citizens visiting the Philippines — including President Obama and other American politicians — will be required to secure a visa. In addition, they have to pay the Philippine government 10,000 in non-refundable, good faith green bucks as an insurance that they will not overstay their visas and become TNTs (Tago ng Tago). Mastercard, American Express or Discover cards will not be accepted.

TNT, which literally means ‘always hiding,’ is often used to refer to Filipinos who overstay their visas in the US.

Marcos, left, and Duterte

BEIJING, China (The Adobo Chronicles, Tokyo Bureau) – Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. has just been proclaimed the Philippines’ Vice President.  This, despite having lost the May elections to Leni Robredo.

No less than Rodrigo Roa Duterte proclaimed Marcos in a gathering of the Filipino community in Beijing China, where the president is on an official state visit. Marcos, along with his sister, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, joined in Duterte’s China visit.

Duterte, however, qualified the proclamation, saying that Bongbong will be the new vice president if he wins his electoral protest.

The former senator has filed a protest, claiming that he, not Robredo, won the election for vice president.

There has yet been no decision on his protest.

Philippines President Duterte And VP Robredo Mark Themselves As ‘Safe’

IMG_2990.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As super typhoon Haima (Lawin) battered most of Northern Luzon Wednesday night into Thursday morning, both Philippines President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo took to their Facebook account to mark themselves as “safe.” (Facebook has a mechanism for users to let their friends and relatives know that they are safe following a major event or disaster.)

Duterte and Robredo are both out of the country.

The president is in China for an official state visit while the vice president is attending a UN Habitat meeting in Ecuador.

So far, Duterte has not cussed at Lawin.

On the other hand, we’re sure Robredo will deal with those who have lost their habitat because of the strong typhoon when she comes back. She is the head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), a cabinet position.
