Indonesian Mayor Links Instant Noodles To Homosexuality; Noodle Sales Down

imageTANGERANG CITY, Indonesia (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It’s genetic. It’s acquired. It’s a punishment from God. It’s the environment. We’ve heard so many theories before about what causes homosexuality, but none as jaw-dropping as this: instant noodles.

The mayor of the city of Tangerang in Indonesia says that the rise in homosexuality in his country is due to a poor diet, including lack of breastfeeding and eating instant noodles. Arief R Wismansyah  made the comments at a pregnancy seminar in the city’s health office.

Just hours after Wismansyah made the statement, noodle companies and retail outlets in Indonesia reported a sharp decline in sales.

In neighboring Philippines, sales of the popular bulalo (bone marrow)-flavored instant noodles are also down, as are those of pad thai noodles in Bangkok and other cities in Thailand.

So, as a public service warning to our non-LGBT readers and followers, think twice before you tear open that cup-o-noodles in you cupboard!

Filipinos Take Offense On Donald Trump’s Comments on Pig’s Blood

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump has flouted official histories and facts, claiming, for example, that thousands of Muslims celebrated in New Jersey on Sept. 11, and that the Department of Labor cooks the unemployment books and that the real jobless rate is 23 percent.

On Friday night, Trump embraced another urban legend, claiming that an American general summarily executed terrorists with bullets dipped in pig’s blood a century ago.  He presented it as an example of how brutal toughness toward terrorists was the way to safeguard the United States. Mr. Trump did not mention any context, but the unconfirmed tale is generally set in the Philippines, where American forces after the Spanish-American War faced resistance in Muslim provinces.

Well, the Filipinos took offense over the statement of Trump.

Not only did they question the authenticity of the legend cited by Trump. They also were greatly offended because Filipinos take pride in their authentic cuisine known as dinuguan (pictured). It is a traditional dish cooked with pig’s blood.

Filipinos living in the U.S. vowed to mail Trump packages containing dinuguan as a way to let the Republican presidential frontrunner know about their sentiments.

Angry Asian Man Picks A Fight With White Girl Asian Food (Truck)

imageAUSTIN, Texas (The Adobo Chronicles ) –A local food truck in Austin called White Girl Asian Food recently came under fire when blogger Angry Asian Man called out the trailer for what he deemed an offensive name and its “oblivious tone-deaf white privilege.”

The white girl,  Bobbie Jo Rice, explained on her Facebook page the rationale behind the provocative name:

“The original name, Com Bun Yeu, implies traditional Vietnamese fare. When rebranding, I wanted to get the point across that our goal was not to make traditional Asian food. I am a white girl cooking my rendition of Asian cuisine. Couldn’t think of a name that was more honest and straight to the point.”

So there.

Would Angry Asian Man be happier if the food truck had a different name, like Rice Truck?
