Fish Ball Vendors Protest Against EDSA ‘People Power’ Rallies

QUEZON CITY, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – It was supposed to be three consecutive days of “Oust Duterte” rallies, held in conjunction with the commemoration of the People Power Revolution that forced then President Ferdinand E. Marcos into exile in Hawaii.

It would have been a gold mine for fish ball vendors who could have sold thousands of sticks of the favorite street food.

But alas, the rallies attracted only a few hundreds which meant huge losses for the vendors on their investment.

Frustrated and angered by the false promise of brisk business, the fish ball vendors staged their own protest at the EDSA Shrine, condemning the ‘Oust Duterte’ organizers for their incompetence, lack of organization and non-existent support and following.

The vendors told The Adobo Chronicles that from now on, they will boycott all rallies and marches organized by the anti-Duterte groups.

Baguio City’s Panagbenga Will Go On As Scheduled

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – Hundreds of thousands of tourists, not to mention local businesses, were sorely disappointed that City Mayor Benjamin Magalong decided to cancel today’s Opening Parade for the 2020 Panagbenga Festival.

The month-long festival attracts more than a million people each year and has always been a great income-generating opportunity for local merchants and businesses.

The cancellation was prompted by concerns that the coronavirus could threaten the health and safety of Baguio residents and visitors alike.

But no worries, the rest of the Panagbenga activities will go on as scheduled, especially the final street and float parades which cap the festival.  This, after the City Government and festival organizers agreed on a crucial safety measure that will be implemented.

The measure?  All parade participants — those hunky males donning Igorot costumes included — as well as the flower floats will be required to wear protective face masks.  In addition, parade spectators will also be asked to wear the masks .

Senator Grace Poe Bats For Partial Renewal Of ABS-CBN Franchise

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –  Senator Grace Poe is being true to form both as an advocate against fake news and a loving daughter to the late Fernando Poe, Jr. (FPJ).

Today, she filed a Senate resolution calling for the partial renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise which expires this March.

The divisive issue pits those who are for the non-renewal of the franchise against those who are for renewal.

Poe wants to renew the entertainment portion of the franchise while cancelling the broadcast network’s news operations.

ABS-CBN, besides being cited for tax evasion and violation of labor laws, is also accused of being a purveyor of fake, biased news.

”We must continue our crusade against fake news, but we also need to seriously consider the feelings of millions of Filipinos who follow the long-running FPJ’s “Ang Probinsyano” and other teleseryes and variety shows on ABS-CBN,” Poe told The Adobo Chronicles.
