DECEMBER 20 A NON-WORKING HOLIDAY IN THE PHILIPPINES

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you live in the Philippines and need to have your hair or nails done for a wedding or Christmas party Sunday, December 20 (Monday, Philippine time), you’re out of luck. You will have to do it yourself.

President NoyNoy Aquino has issued an Executive Order declaring December 20 as a non-working holiday in the country. It is finals night for the 2015 Miss Universe pageant being held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

In issuing the order, Aquino said, “I fully recognize that the Miss Universe pageant is the equivalent of America’s Superbowl where everyone will be glued to their television sets and have viewing parties.   Everyone will be rooting for our representative, and my one-time date, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.”

But holiday or not, beauty salons across the country will be closed because their employees — most of them gay — have all called in sick. They do not want to miss a minute of the popular beauty pageant.

The Adobo Chronicles will be bringing you live updates of the pageant direct from Las Vegas!

WITH HER DEBATE CLOSING STATEMENT, HILLARY CLINTON JUST CLINCHED THE U.S. PRESIDENCY

imageMANCHESTER, New Hampshire (The Adobo Chronicles) – Hillary Clinton’s performance at tonight’s Democratic presidential debate in New Hamphire may have convinced Democratic voters that she would be the best party nominee for president of the United States, but her closing statement may have won for her the  votesd to win in the general election.

Clinton ended her closing statement with ‘May the Force be with You.’

With that, she won the votes of millions of Star Wars fans — Democrats and Republicans alike, assuring her of victory in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

All major networks have just called the election in favor of Clinton.

CHINA BANS MISS CANADA FROM PARTICIPATING IN MISS WORLD, AND IT’S NOT A HOAX

imageSANYA, China  (The Adobo Chronicles) – Sometimes, life imitates satire.  We’re previously reported about countries – the Philippines included — being banned from international beauty pageants for various reasons. This time, China banned Miss Canada from participating in the just-concluded 2015 Miss World held in Sanya, China.

Anastasia Lin, who was born in China and moved to Canada as a teen, was supposed to represent Canada at the international pageant.  However, she never stepped foot in Sanya because she was barred from boarding her connecting flight in Hong Kong.

The reason?

Lin is an ouspoken critic of China’s religious and human rights policies.  She believes in Falun Gong, a spiritual group that is banned in China because the government considers it a cult.

Amid all its bullying in the South China Sea, where it claims territorial jurisdiction over islands that other Southeast Asian countries say belong to them, the Chinese government, after all, has displayed an unusual weakness — afraid of a beauty queen.
