BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguio Bureau) – The cold spell in the city is now on its down trend after the mercury level dropped to a chilly 7.3 degrees Celsius Wednesday morning which is now the fourth lowest temperature in the history of the Philippines’ undisputed Summer Capital.
From the 8 degrees Celsius lowest temperature recorded by the local office of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Tuesday morning, the mercury level further dropped opening the floodgates of the occurrence of frost in highly elevated areas in Benguet and Mountain Province that pose a serious threat to the growth of semi-temperate vegetables that are on their vegetative and flowering stages.
As residents and tourists bundled up, the city’s most popular produce started acting up in the weirdest of ways.
Carrots embraced each other, strawberries turned purple or violet and became iced fruit candies, broccoli flowers have sprouted like cactus plants, and eggplants are mimicking penguins.
All because of climate change.

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Whenever one hears the name Manny Pacquiao, boxing always comes to mind. Like a fist fight. And that’s exactly the challenge hurled at the boxer-turned-senator by a Philippine transgender congresswoman.
Geraldine Roman of the first district of Bataan and the first transgender legislator in the Philippines, told The Adobo Chronicles today that she is willing to engage Pacquiao in a fist fight to settle once and for all the senator’s Bible assertion that women should dress like women, and men like men.
Pacquiao made the statement during deliberations on Senate Bill 1271 that seeks to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression (SOGIE).
The senator also said that crossdressing can lead to “fraud” and subsequently to murder, apparently in reference to transgender woman Jennifer Laude who was killed by US Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton in 2014. Pemberton said he choked Laude to death after learning that the person he brought back to his hotel room was a transgender woman.
“I expect Pacquiao to be man enough to accept this challenge from a woman — fist to fist, with no bible in hand,” Roman said.
