U.S. Senators Leahy And Durbin Banned From Entering PH, Will Maria Ressa Be Next?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau)  –  The Philippines on Friday barred from entry 2 United States Senators supportive of detained Philippine Senator Leila de Lima amid the possible US ban on Filipino officials behind her arrest.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Bureau of Immigration to deny Philippine entry to Senators Patrick Leahy and Dick Durbin after they sought to ban Filipino officials involved in what they called the “wrongful imprisonment” of De Lima, a staunch administration critic.

”The U.S. can’t bully us.  We’ll bully them instead,” Duterte was overheard saying to confidants in Malacanang.

There are also rumors that Duterte will soon order the revocation of the dual citizenship of Rappler CEO Maria Ressa, deport her to the U.S, and  ban her from re-entering the Philippines.  The Duterte administration considers Ressa an “enemy of the state” for the false, exaggerated statements she and Rappler have been spreading about the Philippines’ war on drugs and the state of press freedom in the country.

(It will be recalled that an online petition asking for the revocation of Ressa’s dual citizenship has garnered more thant 54,000 signatures to date.)

As for de Lima, Duterte told The Adobo Chronicles, “Like Pontius Pilate, I wash my hands.  Her fate is now in the hands of the Philippine courts.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – There has been a lot of speculation after (mostly) Philippine media have spread the news that the U.S. Senate appropriations bills recently signed by President Donald Trump included a U.S. ban on Philippine officials and others who were responsible for the jailing of Senator Leila de Lima.

Through connections at the U.S. State Department, The Adobo Chronicles has obtained an official list of those included in the ban.

We’d like to share the list with our readers and followers:

ASF Aftermath: Crocs Substituted For Pigs For Filipino Lechon

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Crocs and pigs are often used to describe inept and corrupt Filipino legislators, but who knew these animal species would have each other’s back during the Christmas holiday season in the Philippines?

In many Filipino households, the traditional noche buena (Christmas eve feast/dinner) would not be complete without the traditional lechon (roast pig).  Who can resist that crispy skin dipped in special lechon sauce ni Mang Tomas?

But alas, the African Swine Fever (ASF) has had an impact on the supply of pigs in the Philippines, and has prompted many Filipinos to stay away from pork altogether.

For the enterprising and resilient Filipinos, the shortage of lechon this Christmas season has not dampened their spirit.  They have found a new gourmet substitute for the lechon pig: the lechon crocodile.

We wonder though if the croc skin would be as crispy as that of the lechon pig.
