2188B766-CC18-47DB-9FFC-0FE8E5985D47WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Rappler CEO Maria Ressa has issued a clarification regarding her statement that the online news source she owns helped Duterte get elected President.

Ressa made the statement during an Awards Dinner sponsored by the National Democratic Institute in Washington, D.C.

Today, Ressa clarified her statement by telling The Adobo Chronicles that what she really meant to say was that Rappler’s black propaganda as well as biased and negative coverage of Duterte’s presidential campaign helped get him elected.

”We were hoping our coverage would ensure the victory of LP candidate Mar Roxas, but it didn’t turn out that way, much to our dismay,” Ressa said.

Well, now that’s clear!

They have Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Philippine Star to thank.

Roque was earlier quoted for his threat to throw hollow blocks at those who are critical of the Duterte administration.  But at a press briefing yesterday, he softened his rhetoric, defended mainstream journalists and urged pro-Duterte socmed warriors to go easy on the likes of Rappler’s Pia Ranada.

PhilStar then published an account of the press briefing saying that Roque, instead of throwing hollow blocks, threw pan de sal.

The National Food Authority may have to increase its wheat importation to meet the increased demand for the favorite Filipino breakfast bread.
