LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – It would seem like a hoax story from The Onion, but the truth of the matter is that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump no longer owns the Miss Universe Pageant.  Just days after he bought NBC’s shares in the company in September, Trump sold the organization to WME-IMG Talent Agency.

This explains why many countries that have previously said they would boycott this year’s pageant have sent their representatives to the popular international beauty competition.  Earlier, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and other Latin countries said they would not be sending representatives to this year’s pageant in protest of Trump’s campaign statements against Mexicans and undocumented immigrants.

But being the beauty connoisseur that he is, Trump wanted a front row seat at this year’s pageant to be held December 20 at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas.

Alas, the new owners refused to sell him a ticket to the pageant and has banned him from all pageant events. Trump will just have to content himself with watching the live telecast on FOX channel from his penthouse suite at the Trump Towers in Las Vegas.

FOREIGN GOVERNMENTS ISSUE TRAVEL ADVISORY ON U.S.

imageSYDNEY, Australia (The Adobo Chronicles) – It is not uncommon for the U.S. State Department to issue travel advisories to Americans visiting or living in countries where there is violence, safety concerns, or terrorist threats.  But it seems the tides have turned.

At least a dozen countries (and the number is growing) in Asia and Europe have issued travel warnings to their citizens to postpone if not altogether cancel their scheduled business or leisurely travel to the United States because of serious and credible concerns about their safety.

The Foreign Affairs Departments of these countries issued the travel warning following the latest mass shooting that killed 14 and injured scores of others in San Bernardino, California.  It was the latest in a pattern of gun violence in the U.S., and was the 355th mass shooting for the year.

The foreign governments have indicated that their travel advisories will only be lifted if and when the U.S. Congress passes a comprehensive legislation banning assault weapons and instituting more stringent regulations on gun ownership.

Republican legislators and presidential candidates appeared unfazed by the travel advisories, threatening instead to completely eliminate the U.S. visa waiver program which grants citizens of certain foreign countries a visa-free visit to the U.S. for business or pleasure.

Wall Street investors are now nervous about the impact of the travel advisories on their respective businesses and fear that another stock market crash is in the offing.

KFC TO START A NEW CHRISTMAS TRADITION: CHICKEN PARDON

imageBAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It all started with a photograph: a lone chicken crossing a pathway in front of a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant in Baguio City, Philippines.  The chicken seemed oblivious to the fact that the building behind her slaughters hundreds of its kind every single day as part of its finger-licking menu item.

The photo went viral and reached the desk of KFC’s CEO Muktesh Pant in Louiseville, Kentucky. He was so moved by the chicken, and this prompted him to issue an international directive to all KFC restaurants and franchise stores all over the world.

The directive mandates that each year, on Christmas eve, all KFC restaurant and franchise owners are to pardon a chicken and let it go free to live out the rest of its life.

This move is patterned after the annual Turkey Pardon which happens at The White House during Thanksgiving week.  The Turkey Pardon gives the president of the United States the power and responsibility to pardon one turkey (sometimes two) and grant it reprieve from being slaughtered and served at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

The chicken pardon tradition starts this year, on Christmas eve.

Another testimony to the fact that humans not only have a stomach.  They also have a heart.
