PHILIPPINES: AN ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS CONVENTION LIKE NO OTHER

imageDUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  In the U.S., popular conventions happen all the time — from the Comic Con to the Furry Con.  In the Philippines, the Alcoholics Anonymous National Convention is something that many Filipinos look forward to.

The 34th Alcoholics Anonymous Philippines Convention will be held in the wonderful City of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental from February 5-7, 2016.

Organizers have chosen an unconventional theme of “Just for Today.”

There will be a lot of skills-building workshops, counseling sessions and group therapy, not to mention invited popular celebrities who will be speaking about their journey towards being alcohol-free.

In keeping with the convention theme, organizers have scheduled an elaborate closing reception sponsored by Tanduay Rhum and San Miguel Corporation.  The evening will feature free-flowing alcohol at no cost to the attendees — just for the day.

It will be a litmus test of how successful AA programs have been in the Philippines in the past 34 years.

The Adobo Chronicles®  will be covering the convention live from Dumaguete City.

SCOTT WALKER PROPOSES U.S.-CANADA BORDER; RICK SANTORUM WANTS SEA WALL AROUND ALASKA AND HAWAII

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles®) – Political analysts and pundits are now calling them the “Border Republicans.” Donald Trump, Scott Walker and Rick Santorum — Republican presidential candidates all — are hugging the limelight where it shines most: illegal immigration.

Everyone is getting tired of Trump’s “great wall” along the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker just found a new hot button issue  to help beef up his campaign: build a U.S. northern border.

In an interview for NBC’s “Meet the Press”, Walker said his tough talk to securing the borders and enforcing U.S. laws extends to the 5,525-mile Canadian border as well.

It’s a shift from most campaign-trail rhetoric, which has focused on the  border with Mexico, where millions undocumented immigrants have entered the country.

Not wanting to be left behind, former Senator Rick Santorum came up with his own border policy idea.  He wants a sea wall built around all islands in the state of Hawaii to deter undocumented immigrants from Asia and the Pacific from entering the U.S.  He is also proposing a similar sea wall between Alaska and Russia.  (Many will recall that while campaigning for vice president, former Governor Sarah Palin said that she can see Russia from her backyard.)

The Republicans may finally see a tighter competition among its presidential candidates.

Will Trump’s commanding lead in the polls finally drop?

Will other candidates join the bandwagon and align themselves with the border Republicans?

HOLLYWOOD, California  (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The movers and skakers of the American television industry have just had it with indecent exposure on live TV and on the red carpet at awards shows.

In a rare move by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) with the full support of all major U.S. television networks, a memorandum of agreement has been signed that will ban all indecent exposure by actors, singers and entertainers on live TV and at all red carpet ceremonies in awards shows.

The move came soon after pop singer Miley Cyrus appeared on the red carpet at last night’s MTV Video Musis Awards, wearing a top that barely covers her upper torso.

“It is time that we take back the decency and family-oriented nature of television and ban entertainers from exposing themselves before viewers, among them children and teens,” the agreement stated. “We will also blacklist any entertainer who claims ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during live performances.

The initial list of those banned from future live TV appearances included Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Janet Jackson.

MPAA is an American trade association that represents the six major Hollywood studios.

NCTA is the major trade organization for the American cable television industry.
