San Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Filipino and Filipino American fashionistas lashed out at Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino for “shaming ” them in the world of fashion.

The outcry came after Aquino appeared in a press conference with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels, Belgium, after a bilateral meeting on territorial disputes between the Philippines and China over oil-rich islands in the South China and West Philippine Seas.

Aquino veered away from his usual barong tagalog and donned a dark suit that the fashionistas described as a vintage coat with rounded lapels and a striped necktie that looked like it was purchased from Goodwill or Salvation Army used clothing outlets. His left collar also protruded like it needed some good ironing.

A Filipino fashionista living in the U.S.  West Coast, Reyna Elena, told The Adobo Chronicles that Aquino seemed to think he was still living in the 1800s. “What was he thinking?” he added.

Others said  that it was probably time for  Aquino, a bachelor, to take a wife who could check on his wardrobe, especially in his international appearances.

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO TOUTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN A SPEECH IN MADRID, CITES WORSENING TRAFFIC

imageMadrid, Spain (The Adobo Chronicles) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino, who is visiting Spain, took time to speak before the Filipino community in Madrid, touting the accomplishments of his administration.

Aquino took credit for his country’s improved economy, the successful war against government corruption, massive upgrading of airports, and even the impressive showing of the Philippine basketball team at the ongoing World Cup.

“We have also seen a change in the nightmarish traffic situation in Metro Manila and other urban cities,” Aquino said, “it has gotten worse.”  Aquino received a standing ovation after he made this statement.

Meanwhile, hours after boasting of the country’s economy, the Philippine peso lost 0.5 percent at 44.130 pesos to the U.S. dollar, the weakest rate since August 8.

Back in the Philippines, Aquino’s critics said the president needs a new eyeglass prescription. “His bifocals seem to let him see two different things at any given time: his imaginary reality and the real plight of the country outside of the presidential palace,” they said.

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO SOON TO BE A GROOM?

imageManila, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Prince William and Princess Kate are having their second child. The openly-gay prime minister of Luxembourg is engaged. Will Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino soon be a groom?

But first, Aquino will be the best man for the upcoming wedding of his good friend Senator Chiz Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista. The nuptials are scheduled next February.

Many Filipinos believe that in every wedding party, the best man is always next to be married. Aquino, 54, made history as the first and only bachelor Philippine president. He said he was delighted to have been picked as best man for Escudero and thankful that he was not chosen as ninong (godfather) for the wedding.  There is also a strong belief in the Philippines that a bachelor who stands as a godfather in a wedding will remain single for the rest of his life.

“I am not giving up hope,” Aquino said. “If I can’t find a Filipina mate, I may have to resort to being a mail-order groom for single ladies in the U.S. or anywhere in the world.”

Aquino is the only son of assassinated opposition leader Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. and the late former President Cory Aquino. He has four sisters, all married, including TV host Kris who is estranged from her husband.

“I have a responsibility as the only son to carry on the Aquino name and to make sure that our political dynasty will live on,” Aquino told The Adobo Chronicles.
