HISTORICAL: TWO SAME-SEX COUPLES ARE THE FIRST TO BE LEGALLY MARRIED IN THE PHILIPPINES

35968-250x250-Gayrings2MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – History was made yesterday when two same-sex couples were officially married at Manila’s City Hall in the Philippines, a country whose population is 80% Catholic.

Maria Arlyn Ibanez and her partner Joanne Reena Gregorio joined Pastor Crescencio Agbayani and his partner Marlon Pelipe in trooping to a civil registry office in Manila, to obtain a marriage license. “We expected it would be denied but we tried it anyway…. We thought maybe there would be a miracle and it would be approved,” Ibanez, a 33-year-old call centre worker, told Agence France-Presse.

Well a miracle did happen.

To the couples’ surprise, they were promptly issued a marriage license by the city hall clerk.

Apparently, the clerk got a little confused and thought that Ibanez was marrying Agbayani and Gregorio was marrying Pelipe.  She did not notice that the license applications were for a male couple and a female couple, respectively.

Despite the error, the two same-sex couples remain legally married because divorce is not allowed in the Philippines.

The Philippines is the only remaining country (outside of The Vatican) in the world where divorce is still illegal.

POLICE INVESTIGATORS DENY INQUIRER’S HEADLINE STORY ON STABBING

imageBACOLOD CITY,  Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Police investigators looking into the case of a 21-year-old man believed to be high on drugs who allegedly stabbed his live-in partner and his nine-month-old baby in Barangay Rizal, Silay City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday morning accused the Inquirer of false reporting.

Inquirer’s headline read: “Man ‘high on drugs’ stabs dead partner, baby in Negros Occidental.”

“It is not true that the live-in partner and baby were already dead when the man stabbed them,” investigators said.

“There is huge difference between stabbing dead people and stabbing to death people who were still alive —  as far as criminal charges are concerned. We can’t charge a man for murder if the vicims were already dead  before he committed the crime,” investigators added.

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – From New York City to St Louis, Missouri; from China to the Philippines, people are paying tribute to Cecil, the Zimbabwean lion killed by an American dentist last week.

The killing has elicited an international outrage and many have called for the banning of hunting as a sport. Others are drawing attention to the issue by putting up amzing tributes to Cecil.

In New York City, the Empire State Building lit up the night sky with a giant image of Cecil projected onto the facade of the landmark building.

In China, a giant billboard with Cecil’s photograph was set up on a hill along the Great Wall.

In Baguio City, Philippines, volunteers carved Cecil’s image from a huge rock located along the winding road leading up to the country’s summer capital.

But in St Louis, Missouri,  city officials were not content with just hanging a banner bearing a photo of Cecil on the Arch. They included the photo of the killer dentist, Dr. Walter Palmer alongside Cecil’s.

Other world sites in Paris, Egypt, Germany, London and Australia are also contemplating putting up their own tributes to Cecil.

We now know who is king — the Lion King.
