‘LAGLAG BALA’: GUCCI UNVEILS DESIGNER PLASTIC WRAP

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Many people want to travel in style, wearing designer clothes, accessories and bags to express their fashion flair. But travelers to the Philippines are frustrated that they can’t show off their Gucci and other designer luggage and purses because of the laglag bala scheme at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The scheme involves airport personnel allegedly ‘planting’ bullets in bags of unsuspecting passengers for the purpose of extorting money.  This has prompted passengers to wrap their luggage in plastic, all but covering the designer logos that they paid lots of money for.

There’s good news!

Gucci has just unveiled its latest travel line consisting of designer plastic wrap that will keep luggage safe, secure but still fashionable (see photo).

So the next time you fly in or out of NAIA, make sure to wrap your check-in and hand-carried bags  or balikbayan boxes in Gucci plastic wrap.  Don’t leave home without it!

SENATOR POE SUPPORTERS THREATEN WRITE-IN VOTE IF SHE IS DISQUALIFIED FROM RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Fearful that the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) will rule to unseat  Grace Poe and consequently have her disqualified to run for president, supporters of the beleaguered senator are threatening a write-in vote come the 2016 Philippine presidential elections.

Poe has consistently topped the polls as the nation’s favorite to win the presidential elections, but her candidacy is threatened by petitions disqualifying her from running because of questions about her birth and citizenship.  The Philippine Constitution requires candidates for president to be natural-born citizens. Poe, a foundling, was a dual citizen of the Philippines and the U.S. but maintains she had already renounced her U.S. citizenship.

Leaders of the grassroots campaign for the senator’s election, “Kay Poe Po Tayo,” announced today that if their candidate is disqualified or barred from running for president, they will troop to the polls in May of 2016 to write in an undeclared candidate to become president.  The group emphasized, they will not write in Poe’s name.

Asked by The Adobo Chronicles what name they will be writing in, the campaign leaders said in unison: “Heneral Luna.”

(Heneral Luna is the lead character in a Filipino film with the same title, based on the life of one of the Philippines’ historical figures.  It is the Philippines’ official submission to the 2016 Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.)

APEC SUMMIT: PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE RESORT VACATION TO MANILA’S HOMELESS

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It worked during the visit of Pope Francis to Manila last January, so it must work just as well during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit later this month.

We’re talking about the Aquino administration’s plan to round up Metro Manila’s homeless population and hide them from view of visiting international dignitaries including U.S. President Barack Obama and Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

The plan is to provide the street population with paid vacation at first-class resorts outside of Metro Manila, just like what happened during the Pope’s visit. “We want to look our best during the APEC Meeting, ” Aquino said. (The government earlier announced the closure of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport as well as major thoroughfares and reserve them exclusively for use of APEC delegates.  It has also declared school  closures as well as non-working holidays for government and private employees.)

Alternatively, those who could not be accommodated at resorts will be given P4,000  (approximately $100) each to rent a home for the duration of the meeting.

Soon after the announcement of the government plan, law enforcement agencies have noticed an unusual increase of people sleeping in sidewalks and street medians hoping that they will be bused away to the resorts or handed P4,000.

There are reports that many of the people are not even homeless. They just want a paid resort vacation or some shopping money for the coming holidays.

It’s more fun in the Philippines!
