THE ADOBO TOUR PART 4: MADAM TUSSAUDS WAX MUSEUM WANTS TO REPLICATE MARCOS CRYPT

imageBATAC, Ilocos Norte (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Adobo Chronicles crew members were treated to a special private tour of the Ferdinand Marcos Presidential Center which houses the late president’s refrigerated crypt. The center is located in Marcos’ hometown of Batac, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines.

The visiting public is prohibited from taking photos or videos of the crypt, and so were we.

We learned from one of the center’s docents that the world-famous Madam Tussauds wax museum has been negotiating with the Marcos family to replicate the crypt for display at its London site. Madame Tussauds is a wax museum in London with branches in a number of major cities. It was founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussauds. It is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying waxworks of historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars and infamous murderers.

Marcos’ widow, Imelda, has reportedly refused to grant permission to Madam Tussauds to, in her words, “waxate” the crypt until after the Aquino government has allowed her husband’s burial in the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (National Heroes’ Cemetery).

Mrs. Marcos also reportedly wants Madam Tussauds to donate an undisclosed percentage of the daily proceeds from the London museum — effective when the wax Marcos crypt is installed — to the poor people of the Philippines.

Already, Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares has her eyes set on the potential donation from the Madam Tussauds. Always vigilant, this taxwoman!

(ADOBO TOUR PART 3) CONFIRMED: VIGAN LONGGANIZA IS NOT VEGAN

imageVIGAN, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles) – Late last year, The Adobo Chronicles broke the story about a famous vegan DJ in California who sued a local food market for product mislabeling. She thought the Vigan longganisa (pork sausage) she bought was vegan.

After arriving in Vigan following a 6-hour drive from Baguio City, our Adobo Chronicles crew went right to work to investigate our earlier report about the longganisa.

We can now confirm with 100% certainty that Vigan longganisa indeed is not vegan. The famous Filipino sausage is packed with pork.

Our crew had it for breakfast this morning at the Cabugao Beach Resort, just a few miles north of Vigan City and we absolutely loved it. Of course, none of us was vegan.

So if you are vegan, avoid buying Vigan longganisa from your local supermarket. You have now been forewarned.

AQUINO ENDORSES PACQUIAO FOR PRESIDENT IN 2016

President Aquino, left, and President Pacquiao?
President Aquino, left, and President Pacquiao?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Filipinos have long expected President NoyNoy Aquino to endorse his close ally, Local Governments and Interior Secretary Mar Roxas for the 2016 presidential elections. But today’s announcement shocked the entire nation: Aquino has endorsed world boxing champion and congressman Manny Pacquiao!

Aquino revealed his endorsement after Pacquiao made a rare appearance in the Lower House yesterday and unexpectedly made a pitch for President Aquino who is currently parrying calls for his resignation from office due to the Mamasapano encounter with rebels where 44 police officers with the Special Action Force lost their lives.

Pacquiao said Aquino should not resign as he shot back at the President’s critics for judging the Chief Executive too harshly.

This is an unusual show of support for the President from Pacquiao who has been allied with the opposition group, United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), which is expected to draft the world champion boxer in its senatorial lineup in 2016.

In announcing his endorsement for the boxer, Aquino said that Pacquiao is well qualified to succeed him because he embodies the fighting character, integrity, and love for country that are needed to make the Philippines great once again. “Pacquiao also has the respect of world leaders because of the name recognition he has built for himself as a world boxing champion.”

Aquino added that Pacquiao even has a new movie, “Manny” which has just been released internationally. “Filipinos love to elect movie actors so I am confident they will have no problem electing  Pacquiao,” he said.

Asked by reporters if Pacquiao’s record as a top lawmaker absentee in Congress will hurt his chances for election, Aquino categorically said, “Not at all! The position of president is a 24-hour, 7 days-a-week job, so his absenteeism is not going to matter much. In fact, because he will reside in Malacanang (presidential palace), he will be present every day.”

Roxas could not be reached for comment, but we expect a fuming mad, foul-mouthed reaction to today’s presidential endorsement.
