NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Both Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders recently sat down with the editorial board of the Daily News to answer questions on a wide range of issues.

Both candidates, who consider New York their home state, were asked if they ever rode the subway and how it is done.

Here are the transcripts from the interviews:

Sanders

Daily News: I know you’ve got to go in a second. When was the last time you rode the subway? Are you gonna campaign in the subway?

Sanders: Actually we rode the subway, Mike, when we were here? About a year ago? But I know how to ride the subways. I’ve been on them once or twice.

Daily News: Do you really? Do you really? How do you ride the subway today?

Sanders: What do you mean, “How do you ride the subway?”

Daily News: How do you get on the subway today?

Sanders: You get a token and you get in.

Daily News: Wrong.

Sanders: You jump over the turnstile.

Daily News: We would like our photographer to be there when you jump over the turnstile.

Clinton

Daily News: Same questions

Clinton: First, the Secret Service makes a sweep of the subway station and train I’m going to be in. Then they escort me to a working elevator. We proceed directly to the station agent gate where the agent has already swung it open. I am then led to the first car of the train which has previously been emptied out of passengers, except for accredited media photographers. And off we go. Easy!

LONDON, England (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – The West End return of ‘Miss Saigon’ ended its run on February 27, and the musical is headed back for Broadway.  Filipino actors Eva Noblezada and Jon Briones will reprise their roles as Kim and the Engineer in New York.

This production will arrive on Broadway in spring 2017, with performances scheduled through January 15, 2018. It will then embark on a U.S. national tour later in the year in Providence, RI, followed by engagements in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Washington, DC, Philadelphia and more than 50 additional cities.

Casting is currently underway.

The Broadway revival will, however, see a major change.  For one, the title of the musical will be changed to “Miss Philippines,” in recognition  of the fact that the role of Kim and others in previous productions of the musical were largely played by Filipinos.

In addition, the setting of the revival will be in the Philippines during the Japanese occupation, just before the Americans liberated the country.

The musical numbers will remain the same.

Filipino Americans Flood Miss Universe Apartment With New, Expensive Cookware

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Miss Universe Organization gave Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines a $300,000 crown adorned with expensive gems, but it apparently can’t afford to loan the new Miss Universe a clean, decent cooking pot.

A photo posted on the Miss Universe social media site showing Wurtzbach, a culinary graduate, preparing a Filipino home-cooked meal using an old, dirty and rusty iron cooking pot immediately went viral.

The humble Filipina beauty didn’t seem to be bothered or complaining.  But Filipino Americans across the continental U.S. had a different take.  They were enraged that their beauty queen was not being treated in a royal manner.

In just hours after the photo went viral, hundreds of packages arrived by Federal Express and UPS at the Manhattan apartment of the new Miss Universe.  The packages contained new, expensive, and designer cookware for Wurtzbach to use.

“I am overwhelmed and feeling so loved,” Wurtzbach said, but I can’t really use every single cookware gift that I received.  I’ll most likely donate most of them to charity.”

Gracious as usual, this new Miss Universe.  Worthy of the crown.  Worthy of all the love and admiration.
