MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles ) – The stage in Metro Manla is set for the grand homecoming of Filipina Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Stella Marquez Araneta, chairperson of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., (BPCI) today announced that Wurtzbach will be coming home on January 23 , will have a press conference on the 24th and a grand parade on the 25th.

BPCI, the local franchise owner for the Miss Universe pageant, is leaving no stone unturned to make this the biggest and most memorable homecoming for a Filipina international beauty queen ever. The Philippines has waited 42 years for another Miss Universe crown. Margarita Moran won the crown in 1973 while Gloria Diaz won it in 1969.

Marquez said the BPCI is coordinating very closely with Malacañang (the presidential palace) to make the January 25 parade successful. She also announced that Wurtzbach will have a very private audience with President Aquino before the parade. Aquino was rumored to have dated Wurtzbach in early 2015.

As for the parade itself, Marquez said that presidential candidate Mar Roxas — Aquino’s anointed one — will escort the New Miss Universe on the parade float.

It is Malacañang’s hope that this will give Roxas a much-needed boost in the polls. National and Metro Manila surveys have consistently put Roxas at the bottom among the declared presidential candidates, lagging behind Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe and Vice President Jejomar Binay (Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is in 5th place).

In exchange for the privilege of Roxas as the parade escort, Malacañang has promised to donate an undisclosed amount to BPCI to be charged against DAP, the Aquino administration’s controversial and unconstitutional Disbursement Acceleration Program.

Welcome home, Pia!

FREE FLIP FLOPS FOR EVERY MAR ROXAS SUPPORTER

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s been said many times that behind every man’s success is a woman. Well, that is certainly true in history as it is in contemporary politics.

In the Philippines, Imelda Marcos is widely acknowledged as the inspiration (or force) that spelled the late President Ferdinand Marcos’ success and staying power.

It’s 2015, and there’s a new batch of Filipino women that are the driving force behind their husband’s political careers. At least one woman that we know of: broadcaster Korina Sanchez, a.k.a., Mrs. Mar Roxas.

Even before Roxas declared his candidacy for president of the Philippines, Sanchez has been a staunch supporter and defender of her husband. Many will recall that she came to the defense of Roxas when CNN’s Anderson Cooper criticized the slow response of the Aquino government (and, by extension, the Department of Interior and Local Government of which Roxas was secretary)  to the plight of the victims of typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda).

Political strategists had warned that  Sanchez’ penchant for making frequent controversial public statements (like when she said on the air that she hoped an impending typhoon that was about to approach the Philippines would veer towards Japan instead) could be detrimental to her husband’s candidacy.  So against her will, she has been staying quietly in the background while her husband did all the talking and campaigning.

But now that her husband’s standing in the polls is not looking very good, Sanchez is again stepping up  — in a very public way — to help her husband secure the votes he needs to become the next Philippine president.

Sanchez has just launched “Tsinelas mula kay Roxas,” (flip flops from Roxas), a nation-wide campaign in which Sanchez will hand out a pair of her infamous slippers or flip flops to every Filipino voter who would pledge to vote for her husband.

So voters, get them now while supplies last!

MAR ROXAS, THE ‘NEW MAN’ IN PURPLE

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Realizing that President Aquino’s endorsements are not helping a bit in his presidential bid, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas is now distancing himself from the Yellow Administration.

‘I am my own man, and I can win the 2016 presidential elections on my own merit,’ Roxas said.  Since launching his candidacy, Roxas has been riding on the coattails of Aquino, often parroting the administration’s Daang Matuwid (Straight Path) battlecry on anti-government corruption. He has been criticized for always wearing a yellow shirt.

‘From now on, I will rid myself of all vestiges of the Aquino administration, including emptying my closet of all my yellow wardrobe,’ he said.  I will henceforth be the ‘Man in Purple.’

Good for him.
