CHICAGO, Illinois (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – If you think the Log Cabin is the largest group of LGBT Republicans, think again. How about the Human Rights Campaign (HRC)?
Earlier this month, HRC, the nation’s largest LGBT civil rights organization, decided to endorse Republican Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois in his reelection bid over his opponent, Representative Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat.
Kirk is the junior United States Senator from Illinois. Previously, he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Illinois’s 10th congressional district. Kirk is a social moderate and fiscal conservative.
Duckworth has been the U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 8th congressional district since 2013. A Democrat, she is the first Asian American woman elected to Congress in Illinois, the first disabled woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first member of Congress born in Thailand.
Now, it turns out Kirk has endorsed presidential candidate Donald Trump. Ergo, HRC is endorsing Trump.
Many in the LGBT community are finally realizing that HRC does not represent the rainbow colors. Rather, it represents the red, GOP color.
Nevertheless, it is never too late for HRC to come out of the closet. Now we know.
