MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez, wife of presidential candidate Mar Roxas, says she is very proud about the laglag bala scheme that has tainted not only the reputation of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), but that of Philippine tourism as a whole.

The scheme involves the arrest of airline passengers allegedly found to be keeping bullets in their luggage. It is suspected that the bullets are “planted” by airport personnel as a way of extorting money from unsuspecting passengers.

In a statement yesterday, Sanchez even suggested to the international magazine National Geographic to feature the scheme as well as NAIA in one of its future editions. “This way, the world can truly appreciate the heroic efforts of the Philippine government to ensure the utmost security of passengers flying into and out of Manila.  She went as far as to suggest a title for the feature article on NAIA: “World’s Best Bullet-Detecting Airport.”

Sanchez  is no stranger to controversial on-air and off-air comments.  She once clashed with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, accusing him of not knowing what he as talking about in his live coverage of the devastation brought about by Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

She also commented in a live broadcast that she hoped an impending typhoon  (Ruby) about to hit the the Philippines would veer towards Japan instead.

If her husband is elected president, Sanchez will surely be a First Lady with a lot to say.

IF SHE BECOMES PHILIPPINE FIRST LADY, KORINA SANCHEZ WANTS IMELDA MARCOS’ SHOES REPLACED BY HER FLIP FLOPS

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Everybody knows about former Philippine First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos’ collection of over 3,000 pairs of shoes. They are now displayed in a national museum in Marikina, a Metro Manila town known for its world-class shoe manufacturing industry.

Korina Sanchez is a broadcast journalist who has her own collection of — not shoes — but flip flops.

Sanchez, of course is the wife of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas, who is running for president in 2016 as President Aquino’s anointed successor.

In an interview with CNN Philippines today, Sanchez was asked about what she envisions her role would be as First Lady if Roxas gets elected.

“The first thing I would do is to replace all of Imelda’s shoes displayed at the Shoe Museum with my colorful collection of tsinelas  (flip flops).”

“I think the tsinelas  would be better representative of the true culture of the Filipino people” Sanchez said.

AS FIRST LADY, KORINA SANCHEZ WILL ASK TO BAR ANDERSON COOPER FROM ENTERING THE PHILIPPINES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Korina Sanchez, broadcast  journalist and wife of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Mar Roxas, is one step closer to becoming the First Lady of the Philippines. This, after President NoyNoy Aquino officially endorsed her husband as his choice for the next president.

Many will recall that during the height of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) in 2013, Sanchez criticized CNN’s Anderson Cooper for his reporting on the government’s slow response to relief operations.  Sanchez said Cooper didn’t know what he was talking about. Cooper then challenged Sanchez to leave her airconditioned radio studio in Manila and travel to Tacloban to personally see what was happening at ground zero.

Apparently, Sanchez has not recovered from the embarrassment Cooper had caused her.

Speaking to reporters after her husband was proclaimed the presidential standard bearer for Aquino’s Liberal Party, Sanchez said that her first official act as Philippine First Lady would be to ask her husband to issue an executive order banning Cooper from entering the Philippines — as a CNN anchor or as a private tourist.

Sanchez said the executive order would designate Cooper as a “persona non grata” which is one of the grounds for denying a Philippine entry visa to any foreigner.

CNN  nor Cooper could not be reached for comment.
