SARAH PALIN’S PROPOSAL TO SOLVE THE U.S. BORDER CRISIS: REINSTATE THE DRAFT

Washington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor Sarah Palin appears to be stealing the limelight from her fellow Republicans who are in official positions in government.

First, she challenged Congress to impeach Barack Obama for what she called “illegal activities” of the president — from Obamacare, to Benghazi, to the VA healthcare scandal.  She thought members of Congress do not have “the guts” to initiate impeachment proceedings.  That didn’t sit well with Speaker John Boehner and other Republican leaders.

Now, fed up with the U.S. immigration issue capped in recent weeks by the border crisis involving unaccompanied children from Central America, Palin proposed what she thinks is the perfect solution:  reinstate the draft.

For more than 50 years, Selective Service and the registration for America’s young men have served as a backup system to provide manpower to the U.S. Armed Forces.  From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means.  The draft formally ended in 1973.

Palin’s idea is to deploy American citizens recruited through the draft to line the entire perimeter of all U.S. borders with Mexico. Based on her expert calculation, the most effective way to deter unauthorized U.S. entry  through the borders is to station one draftee for every five feet of the border. “Now, that would make it impossible for unauthorized immigrants to slip through,” she said. “It will be a round-the-clock guarding and surveillance of the borders, with the draftees working on 8-hour shifts,” she added.

The U.S.-Mexico border spans a total of 1,954 miles or 10,317,120 feet.  With a draftee stationed every 5 feet, the border would need 2,063,424 draftees at any given time. Multiplied by three, 8-hour shifts, the total personnel required to secure the border is 6,190,272.

With her recent public statements, many suspect that Palin is trying to resurrect her visibility in preparation to run for president in 2016. She was quoted recently saying that if she became president, women will be included in the draft.  “I believe in equality,” she said.

REPUBLICANS SEEK COMPROMISE ON IMMIGRATION REFORM

imageWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Rep. Mike McCaul, R-Texas, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee, told Fox News Sunday that Republicans were considering a compromise with the Obama administration that would reinstate bipartisan talks and possibly a  bill that would establish true comprehensive immigration reform this year.

The compromise will not only authorize the release of  President Obama’s $3.7 Billion emergency spending request to Congress to stem the flow of children across the southwest U.S. border but permanently fix the broken immigration system of the United States.

“We are prepared to  give in to all of Obama’s proposed immigration policies, including the granting of amnesty to the estimated 11 Million undocumented immigrants currently living in the country in exchange for a no-nonsense border security plan,” McCaul said.

When asked by The Adobo Chronicles  what one major compromise the Republicans were seeking, McCaul said, “Very simple: close all existing gaps in the U.S.-Mexico borders in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.  But in addition, we would like to construct  steel fences in the waters on either side of the U.S. territory, in the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.”

In an analysis of the Republican proposal, it was determined that the proposed steel fences will be built at 12 nautical miles around the state of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean and 12 nautical miles around all eastern states that look out into the Atlantic Ocean.

The Obama administration is currently reviewing the Republican proposal and is expected to issue a statement in the next couple of days.

Will this finally put at end to the immigration impasse?

Washington, D.C. – The State Department today announced a life-changing new policy for Filipinos. Visas will no longer be required to travel to the United States. The policy to take the Philippines off the list of countries whose citizens are required to obtain visas for travel to the U.S. is effective immediately.

The new policy comes on the heels of a recent survey showing that an overwhelming majority of Filipinos have a favorable view of the United States. The Philippines ranked first in a global survey on the image of the United States worldwide, beating even the U.S. itself when it comes to a favorable view on the American people.

According to the 2013 Global Attitudes Project of the Pew Research Center in Washington DC, the Philippines got an 85 percent score, the highest, when people were asked “Do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of the US?”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that the State Department made this monumental decision as a way to reward the Filipinos for making the U.S. really look good in the survey.

With this new policy, the U.S. is now added to the list of 25 countries which do not require travel visas for Filipinos. These countries include most of the Philippines’ Southeast Asian neighbors as well as some countries in Latin America including Brazil, Costa Rica, Peru and Bolivia.

The “no visa” policy comes just in time for the visit to the Philippines later this month by U.S. President Barack Obama.

UPDATE: Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Manila asked that Filipinos refrain from calling the consular office to avoid its phone system from crashing.  Instead, people are being asked to download and complete the biographical form and submit it to the embassy, along with four 2×2 colored ‘selfie’ photos at least one week before they depart for the U.S.  The biographical form will be filed by the embassy for reference  just in case Filipinos overstay in the U.S.  The no-visa policy for Filipinos is good for 60 days stay in all states except Alaska.
