Why Disneyland Is Not Coming To The Philippines

imageANGELES CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It would have been an iconic proof of foreign investor confidence in the Philippines as has been constantly touted by the Aquino administration, but alas, Disneyland is, after all, not coming to this country in Asia.

In the past few weeks, Filipinos were filled with great excitement after hearing the news that Disney investors have agreed to build a Disneyland resort in the province of Pampanga, former site of the U.S. Clark Airforce Base.

Today, however, Disney told The Adobo Chronicles that the multi-billion company has nixed the idea of a Disneyland in Pampanga.

It has been reported that President Aquino has been wooing Disney as part of his administration’s campaign to increase foreign investment and promote world tourism in his country.

The Chronicles learned that Aquino gave Disney two conditions that needed to be met before it can build the theme park in the Philippines:

1. That the park be built in Tarlac, instead of Pampanga.  Tarlac, of course, is the hometown of Aquino, while Pampanga is the hometown of his nemesis, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

2. That the park be named NoyNoy Aquino Disneyland.  It was Aquino’s last-ditch effort to seal his legacy, and in keeping with major infrastructure being named after his family, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the 22-kilometer paved road network, the Cory Aquino Highway, which will connect the Cagayan Valley to Ilocos Region via Solsona town in Ilocos Norte.

Disney, however, said that Tarlac, unlike Pampanga, was not an ideal site for the theme park because of the presence of the controversial Hacienda Luisita (owned by the Aquinos).  It also said it didn’t want to politicize its business ventures by naming its park after political dynasties.

So for now, Filipinos can visit Disneyland in the U.S. — if they can get a visa — or Japan, where it is much easier to get one.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) –  Ron Klain, the Democratic power broker and Washington attorney appointed by President Barack Obama in October to manage the America’s response to its isolated Ebola outbreaks, is set to leave his newly created job on March 1.

Klain was appointed in October 17 last year as the Centers for Disease Control and other government agencies grappled to contain the public’s jitters over several Ebola infection cases. He is set to return to his previous job in the private sector.

Not so fast.

In an announcement today that suprised many, Klain included, The White House said Obama is appointing the Ebola Czar as the new Measles Czar.  The action came in the wake of the recent outbreak of measles cases, largely traced to the Disneyland theme park in Southern California.

Once thought to have been eliminated in the U.S., the highly contagious disease is back with a vengeance, thanks to world travel and the growing movement against vaccinations in the U.S.

Dozens of confirmed measles cases have been reported in recent weeks.  In contrast, one can count confirmed Ebola cases in the U.S. with less than five fingers,  with only one recorded death from the virus.

In an interview with Klain, the lawyer informed The Adobo Chronicles that he was inclined to accept the nomination primarily to make up for the salary he received doing practically nothing as the country’s Ebola Czar. “This would be a great way to give back,” Klain said of his new nomination.

All’s well that ends well.

REPUBLICANS ENDORSE SPLITTING CALIFORNIA INTO SIX STATES AND PROPOSE A SEVENTH

sixStatesSanta Ana, California – As signatures are being gathered for a proposed ballot initiative that would divide California into six separate states, Republican leaders are urging the ballot proponents to add a seventh –  the State of Orange. That means the current Orange County in southern California.

Orange County, with a population of more than three million –making it the sixth most populous county in the United States — is one of the few remaining California bastions of the Republican party, along with a couple of counties in Central California.  Of Orange County’s six congressional representatives, all but one are Republican.  The lone Democrat is Loretta Sanchez of the 47th Congressional District.

“It is about time we had a red state in the west coast of the U.S.,” the Republican leaders said.  Orange county is known for its political conservatism and three Orange County cities (City of Orange, Garden Grove and Huntington Beach) are among America’s most conservative.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that should Orange become its own state, the Republican leaders want the State Capitol to be located in Anaheim, right inside Disneyland. They have even decided on a state meme, “The Magic State,”  with Mickey Mouse gracing the official state seal.

Currently, the City of Santa Ana serves as the county’s government center.

The current ballot initiatives proposes to divide California into these six states:  South California, West California, Central California, Silicon Valley (which would include San Francisco), North California and finally, Jefferson.
