TOP PHILIPPINE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES NAMED. GUESS WHO’S NO. 1?

imageMANILA, Philippines  (The Adobo Chronicles) – The list of 2015 Top 100 Colleges and Universities in the Philippines was released today by Webometrics, the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions.

There weren’t any big surprises, with many universities and colleges that have always been considered tops in the Philippines making this year’s list, like the University of the Philippines, Ateneo University, De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, among others.

But there was one big surprise in this  year’s list: the Congress of the Republic of the Philippines which made it to the No. 1 spot.

A spokesperson for Webometrics told The Adobo Chronicles that Congress has become the best training ground for neophytes, the non-qualified, the inexperienced and the non-credentialed politicians. After just their second year in the institution, many become corrupt, millionnaires or money launderers, and candidates for graduate school at the National Penitentiary.

Congress also changes people’s careers: actors become politicians, and politicians become actors, Webometrics said.

U.S. LEADS IN MASSIVE CLEAN-UP OF THE PHILIPPINES

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Last year, the  United States and the Philippines signed a 10-year defense agreement, considered by many as one of the clearest signs yet of renewed American engagement in the region at a time when tensions between China and its neighbors have been rising.

The agreement will entail moving American ships and planes to the Philippines more frequently as well as engaging in more training exercises with the country’s forces.

But a little-known provision in this pact is a firm commitment from the Americans to help the Philippines with the much-needed clean-up of the country’s environmental and political filth.

Today, U.S. Ambassador Philip Goldberg led hundreds of Filipino volunteers to undertake a massive clean-up of Manila’s Pasig River, known for many decades now for its polluted water and garbage-filled river banks. This dire situation has all but exacerbated the problem of perennial flooding in the metropolis.

Members of the international diplomatic corps also participated in today’s civic engagement project.

In talking to reporters after the day-long clean-up project, Goldberg said this was jut the beginning of many more projects schduled this year.

“Next, we will undertake a massive clean up of Philippine Congress, then Malacanang (the presidential palace), and finally the judiciary,” he said.

He was, of course, talking about political — not environmental — filth, including, but not limited to, the pork barrel scam, government curruption, the Aquino administration’s inefficiency, and justice for sale.

DREAM CONCERT IN INDIANA: AMERICAN IDOL’S CLAY AIKEN AND DAVID ARCHULETA

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (The Adobo Chronicles) – Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), a.k.a. Anti-Gay Legislation, has many unintended consequences. But a music concert?

That’s right, openly-gay Clay Aiken and openly-Mormon David Archuleta have signed a contract to stage a joint concert to be held over the Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis.

Many of course will remember the duo as both runners-up in the reality show ‘American Idol.’  They are now recording artists and have their respective legions of fans and followers, on and off the music circle.

Aiken is just now just recovering from his unsuccessful attempt to represent North Carolina in the U.S. Congress. Archuleta is back on track after his two-year missionary stint with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile.

Aiken is against Indiana’s RFRA while Archuleta supports it, so that makes this dream concert the biggest deal yet in Indiana since Michael Jackson.

See Archuleta’s controversial tweets here.

Music fans are not going to boycott the concert because of one or the other singer. Both camps have vowed to support their respective idols. And that makes this concert a win-win situation. Even Indiana Governor Mike Pence is attending.

As of midnight last night, the concert, to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which has a seating capacity of more than a quarter million, has sold out!

The first 10,000 fans to arrive on concert night will be treated to free pizza from Indianapolis’ Memories Pizza.
