BEIJING, China (The Adobo Chronicles, HongKong Bureau)- Last year, Nancy Pelosi who was then Speaker of the US House of Representatives visited Taiwan and met with President Tsai Ing-wen. Last April, current Speaker Keven McCarthy did the same. This, of course, angered Beijing.
The visits of the Democrat and Republican legislators prompted China to engage in military exercises across the Taiwan Strait.
Now China is also upset that Philippine Senato Risa Hontiveros visited Taiwan and met with Ing-wen. In protest, China is contemplating in sending more Chinese fishing vessels in the South China Sea, near the Philippines’ territorial waters.
Moral of the story: For every action, there is a corresponding reaction.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It is often said that the most difficult task in any beauty contest lies with the judges. Their decisions are always met with criticism. Damed if they do, damned if they don’t.
For for this year’s Binibining Pilipinas pageant however, the panel of judges will have the easiest decision to name Miss Cebu Province the ‘Best in National Costume.’
Miss Cebu Province donned the costume of the well-loved Catholic icon, the Santo Niño — gender notwithstanding.
One of the judges told The Adobo Chronicles that the panel does not have any choice. If Miss Cebu Province is not chosen the winner of the national costume, they will incur the ire of the entire Catholic Filipino nation. “It would be tantamount to disrespecting the Child Jesus,” she added.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) lauded the decision of the judges.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau)- The Philippines’ Department of Justice has embarked on a modernization program that will make crime investigation world-class.
Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla told The Adobo Chronicles that his department will do away with all lie-detector tests in favor of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
The move came after news that AI has made non-invasive mind-reading possible by converting thoughts into text, according to a recent study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience. The innovation involves an AI-based decoder that translates brain activity into a continuous stream of text with high accuracy. The system works by mapping patterns of neuronal activity to strings of words with particular meanings, rather than attempting to read out activity word by word.
Remulla is confident that DOJ’s adoption of modern technology will significantly reduce the backlog of criminal investigations and cases and will put the meme, “Justice delayed is justice denied” to shame.
