In The Philippines, Carabaos, Senators Kneel! (Video)

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every year, on a day in the month of May, the town of Pulilan, Bulacan in the Phlippines, celerates the Kneeling Carabao Festival, during which carabaos are paraded in the streets and made to kneel in front of the church. It is definitely a sight to behold.

But it is not only carabaos that kneel in the Philippines. Even senators do.

Case in point: Senator Bato de la Rosa knelt in front of witness cops, begging them tell the truth during a Senate hearing.

It’s not power-tripping,” the senator said.

Did he just trip off his chair then?

Angat Buhay, Rappler, Vera Files Going After Julian Martir!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – What’s Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay, Rappler and Vera Files up to these days?

They’re all trying to go after Julian Martir, the 20-year-old Bacolod student who claims he has been accepted and offered scholarships by 30 schools in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

Angat Buhay told The Adobo Chronicles that they are in dire need of a brilliant PR consultant in order to sustain their societal presence in an environment full of UniTeamers. “Julian would be the perfect person to fill this position given that he is a genius and a skilled social media personality,” Robredo said.

As for Rappler and Vera Files? Well, they finally were humbled by the events surrounding Julian’s instant fame, not to mention the fact that the kid defies all odds when it comes to fact checking. Rappler and Vera Files have never been so embarrassed about the poor state of their own fact checking. And it took a 20-year-old to put them in their proper place!

News Media, Fact Checkers Outsmarted By 20-Year-Old Filipino Student!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – First, the news media were scrambling to interview the 20-year-old Filipino student who said he was accepted and offered scholarships to 30 U.S. and UK schools. Then the news and social media began bullying the kid for what they thought were lies.

Now, the news media are saying “mea culpa” because apparently, some of the schools mentioned by the student confirmed that they, indeed, have accepted him, with some offering scholarships.

So, it now appears that Julian Martir outsmarted the smart news media.

And how about the leading fact checkers Rappler and Vera Files? Nada. Quiet. (Were they afraid their fact-checking would be proven wrong?)

Moral of the story:

  1. 1. If it’s too good to be true, it could be true!
  2. 2. Fact-check, fact-check, fact- check
  3. 3. Think before you click
  4. 4. Leave the boy alone
