NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – ‘Fresh Off The Boat,’ the new prime-time television sitcom featuring an Asian American family, has just been cancelled by its home network,  ABC.

The news stunned millions of Asian Americans, many of whom have organized weekly viewing parties to show full support for this show which was based on a similarly-titled book authored by Eddie Huang.   It airs Tuesday nights.

In announcing that there will be no fifth episode this Tuesday night, ABC said that while the sitcom garnered solid viewing numbers for its first four episodes, the network had no other choice than to cancel the series because of mounting complaints that its title is racist and derogatory.

(Fresh off the boat, or FOB, is used to refer to boat people, those who came to America on boats to escape persecution or repressive conditions in their home countries.  The term had also evolved to mean newly-arrived foreign nationals trying to assimilate into mainstream American living.)

ABC is reportedly considering replacing ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ with another sitcom that also features an Asian American family. FOB’s actor Hudson Yang, who plays the role of the young Eddie Huang, has been tapped to star in the new TV series.

The title of the new sitcom?  ‘ABC!’ As in American-Born Chinese. Tuesdays nights. On ABC.

‘ABC!’ On ABC – brilliant, effortless marketing for both the show and the network.

UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES RESEARCHERS DISCOVER A CURE FOR JETLAG

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It happens to many world travelers. They cross the International Dateline and arrive at their destination jetlagged, sometimes for days.

Now the good news: researchers at the University of the Philippines (U.P.) Medical School have finally found a cure for jetlag and all along,  it has been in the market for many decades. We’re talking about San Mig Light, the 100-calorie version of the Philippines’ signature premium beer, San Miguel.

Just a 330 ML bottle of San Mig Light instantly makes jetlag go away, depending on the severity of one’s affliction. For severe cases of jetlag, it could take up to three bottles of the poplar beer to be effective.

The U.P. research study involved 500 mildly to severely jetlagged travelers arriving in Manila from countries in Europe and North America.

Ninety percent of those who were mildly jetlagged got instantly better after consuming just one bottle of San Mig Light. Ninety three percent of the severely jetlagged got better after three beers.

The researchers also experimented with other beer brands as well as the regular San Miguel beer, but did not have the same results, “so there must be something in San Mig Light that’s doing the trick,” they said.

Immediately after the results of study were released, stock prices of San Miguel Corporation, makers of San Mig Light, more than tripled at the Makati Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the Manila-based University of Santo Tomas Medical School, considered the oldest Catholic University in all of Asia, announced it was launching a clinical study to find out whether San Mig Light can cure insomnia.

EXCLUSIVE: SENATOR CHIZ ESCUDERO’S WEDDING CAKE; PRESIDENT AQUINO A NO-SHOW

POLILLO, Philippines ( Exclusive to The Adobo Chronicles) – After two years in a relationship, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero and actress Heart Evangelista  finally tied the knot on Sunday, February 15, at Balesin Island Club in Polillo, Quezon Province. Guests included family, friends, as well as showbiz and political colleagues.

The Adobo Chronicles was among the very few media companies that were invited to the wedding ceremony.

But as in all celebrity weddings, things could go terribly wrong, as they did for this particular wedding.

  • Only half the invited guests made it to the wedding. Many guests showed up on Valentine’s Day,  February 14, because of earlier rumors that the ceremony would be held that day. After all, the bride’s name is Heart!
  • The Best Man, President NoyNoy Aquino, was a no-show, like he was in the arrival ceremonies for the 44 police officers slain in an encounter with rebels last month in Mindanao.
  • The wedding planner wanted a 10-foot wedding cake to eclipse that of  Dingdong Dantes and  Marian Rivera. The planner apparently wrote “inches” instead of “feet” in the cake order and that’s what the couple got. But maybe the tiny wedding cake could become a world record for Guinness!

Congratulatins to the newly-weds!
