MCDONALD’S WILL SOON SERVE BREAKFAST ALL DAY; HAWAII RESIDENTS AND TOURISTS TO STAGE PROTEST

CHICAGO, Illinois ( The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  Starting on October 6, you will be able order your Sausage or Egg  McMuffins or hotcakes at McDonalds — all day!

The fast-food giant is finally giving in to customer pleas to extend its breakfast menu beyond the current 10:30 a.m. cutoff, The Washington Post reports.

Previously, McDonald’s argued that its 14,000 franchise restaurants don’t have the capacity to make breakfast and everything else on their menu at the same time.  But with the slump in sales and growing competition from other fast food chains, McDonald’s says it can no longer afford to ignore its customers.

However, the all-day fare won’t include everything on the McDonald’s regular breakfast menu. Depending on the location, sausage burritos, hot cakes, Egg McMuffins and biscuit sandwiches will be served.

How about the Spam or Portuguese island breakfast served at McDonald’s locations in Hawaii?  Nope, says McDonald’s. “It will be too difficult to be slicing and frying spam and Portuguese sausage, scrambling eggs and cooking rice at the same time as preparing sandwiches and burgers.”

In protest of the decision to exclude the rice breakfast favorite of the islands, Hawaii residents and tourists will be picketing McDonald’s outlets on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island every day during the week of October 5 to press the fast food chain to reconsider its discriminatory decision.

The Adobo Chronicles® will be covering the protests live from Waikiki.  Stay tuned.

PHILIPPINES: AN ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS CONVENTION LIKE NO OTHER

imageDUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) –  In the U.S., popular conventions happen all the time — from the Comic Con to the Furry Con.  In the Philippines, the Alcoholics Anonymous National Convention is something that many Filipinos look forward to.

The 34th Alcoholics Anonymous Philippines Convention will be held in the wonderful City of Dumaguete, Negros Oriental from February 5-7, 2016.

Organizers have chosen an unconventional theme of “Just for Today.”

There will be a lot of skills-building workshops, counseling sessions and group therapy, not to mention invited popular celebrities who will be speaking about their journey towards being alcohol-free.

In keeping with the convention theme, organizers have scheduled an elaborate closing reception sponsored by Tanduay Rhum and San Miguel Corporation.  The evening will feature free-flowing alcohol at no cost to the attendees — just for the day.

It will be a litmus test of how successful AA programs have been in the Philippines in the past 34 years.

DES MOINES, Iowa (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on Thursday reiterated claims made by her rival Jeb Bush that Asian women oftentimes come to the U.S. for the purpose of having babies, which then provide them with the rewards of health care, education and ultimately in most cases, future citizenship.

During remarks to the press in Le Mars, Iowa, Fiorina, who has had some momentum in the polls since her well-received debate performance earlier this month, asserted that “there’s an industry that has been set up in L.A. where Chinese women come over on a tourist visa and have a baby. This abuse has been going on for a while. We need to stop it.”

Asked if she had a proposal to fix the problem, Fiorina said that if elected president, she will issue an executive order requiring all women tourists  — 13 years old and above– from China and other Asian countries to undergo a pregnancy test upon arrival at U.S. Airports.  “Those found to be pregnant will be sent back immediately to their home country,” she said.

Responding to a reporter question, Fiorina said her proposal will not cost the U.S. taxpayers a single penny. The cost of the home pregnancy test kit ($15.99) will be collected from each arriving woman passenger whether or not the test comes back positive.

Fiorina did not address the issue of women tourists who become pregnant while in the U.S.
