NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Both Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders recently sat down with the editorial board of the Daily News to answer questions on a wide range of issues.

Both candidates, who consider New York their home state, were asked if they ever rode the subway and how it is done.

Here are the transcripts from the interviews:

Sanders

Daily News: I know you’ve got to go in a second. When was the last time you rode the subway? Are you gonna campaign in the subway?

Sanders: Actually we rode the subway, Mike, when we were here? About a year ago? But I know how to ride the subways. I’ve been on them once or twice.

Daily News: Do you really? Do you really? How do you ride the subway today?

Sanders: What do you mean, “How do you ride the subway?”

Daily News: How do you get on the subway today?

Sanders: You get a token and you get in.

Daily News: Wrong.

Sanders: You jump over the turnstile.

Daily News: We would like our photographer to be there when you jump over the turnstile.

Clinton

Daily News: Same questions

Clinton: First, the Secret Service makes a sweep of the subway station and train I’m going to be in. Then they escort me to a working elevator. We proceed directly to the station agent gate where the agent has already swung it open. I am then led to the first car of the train which has previously been emptied out of passengers, except for accredited media photographers. And off we go. Easy!

Philippines: Temporary Vehicle License Plates Issued To Solve Shortage

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – First, the Philippines’ Bureau of Customs embargoed some 600,000 imported vehicle license plates  because the private consignee has failed to pay about P40 Million in duties and taxes.  Then, some P4 Million worth of license plate materials had been reported stolen from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) facilities. Is it any wonder that motorists who have paid for their vehicle license plates have ended up with nothing?

To remedy the worsening license plate situation, LTO chief Roberto Cabrera ordered the issuance of temporary plates to motorists who have earlier made the required payments.

By issuing the order, Cabrera hopes to appease the anger and frustration of thousands of Filipino vehicle owners.  To show good faith and remorse over the unfortunate situation, Cabrera said that the temporary plates have no expiry dates, and hence can be used in perpetuity.

Motorists who have yet to receive the plates they have already paid for are advised to go to their nearest  local LTO to claim their temporary plates.

The plates come in different colors and are made of unbreakable plastic.

New Philippine Passport Will Include Automatic Tourist Visa To U.S., Canada And Europe

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Philippine government has announced that beginning this April, it will start rolling out a fraud-proof, machine-readable e-passport which has enhanced security features that are difficult to replicate.

The new passport has an embedded chip with biometric information used to confirm the identity of the traveler, including a photo and fingerprints. Each page has illustrations that speak to the country’s history, but they’re more than just pretty: the fine-lined embossed effect on the printed surface, created by a process called intaglio printing, is exceptionally difficult to copy.

As a special bonus, the government says the new passport will include an automatic tourist visa to the U.S., Canada and countries in the European Union (EU), but it will only be extended to the first 20,000 Filipinos who will apply for the new passport.

First come, first served.
