SANTA CLARA, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The countdown has begun for Super Bowl 50 which will be held at the Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, February 7.

Preparations are at fever-pitch — in San Francisco!

No, that wasn’t a typo.

Yes, the Levi’s Stadium is located in the City of Santa Clara, but The City by the Bay is hugging all the spotlight for this monumental sports event.

San Francisco is holding its own Super Bowl.  In fact, it has transformed a wide patch of the city into what it calls “Super Bowl City.” There will be concerts, game viewing, street parties, vendor extravaganza, and what have you.

This has prompted the City of Santa Clara to file a law suit in district court seeking damages to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars for lost revenue and media attention.

Santa Clara City Manager Julio Fuentes told The Adobo Chronicles that San Francisco was malicious in stealing the limelight from Santa Clara and that it has robbed the city government as well as local businesses of potential revenue expected from the influx of football fans.

“I’ve encountered many people who thought that the 50th edition of the game was being held in San Francisco,” Fuentes said, adding that “it is only fair that San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and his cohorts be made to pay for their misdeed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the City of Santa Clara, and San Francisco robbed us of the glory.”

Philippine Presidential Candidates Gear Up For Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival

imageBAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Some 2.5 Million people are expected to attend this year’s festivities for the annual Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City, the Philippines’ summer capital.

The month-long celebration of the blooming of flowers begins February 1st and will culminate in a grand street parade later in the month.

2016, of course, is presidential election year in the Philippines, and it would unwise for the candidates to ignore this enormous opportunity to campaign.

Today, The Adobo Chronicles has confirmed that all five major presidential candidates will participate in the street parade, and all have chosen their respective costumes and attires for the grand celebration

The five candidates are Vice President Jejomar Binay, former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas (who will be parading with his wife, broadcaster Korina Sanchez), Senators Grace Poe and Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

While none of the candidates revealed their chosen costume, they allowed us to publish an artist’s rendition of how they will look like in the parade. (See photo)

Who do you think looks the most presidential?

Hawaii: To Walk Or Not To Walk, That Is The Question

imageHONOLULU, Hawaii (The Adobo Chronicles) – Aloha! Welcome to paradise, where everything is laid back and there are not that many rules to follow. Or rules that confuse you.

But tourists as well as Hawaii residents have recently discovered that they can actually get a citation just for following the rules.

Anywhere in the world, pedestrians of all persuasions and nationalities understand basic signs like traffic lights.  They know when to cross or not to when the lights tell them so.  Some more sophisticasted traffic lights don’t only say “walk” or “don’t walk” but also warn the pedestrians that they have a certain number of seconds left to complete their walk to the other side of the street.

Apparently, the Honolulu Police Department has a different take on the traffic lights.  The countdown which is meant to warn pedestrians how many seconds they have left to complete their crossing does not mean anything. Anyone who steps off the sidewalk when the countdown begins gets a citation.

So, when in Hawaii, know when to walk or not to walk.
