Senator Hontiveros Files Bill To Change EDSA to KIDSA

IMG_4061MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippines Senator Risa Hontiveros is on a high roll these days, basking on her three minutes of fame following the killing of Kian Delos Santos in a recent drug operations by the police in Caloocan City.

The Akbayan lady senator was among the first opposition politicians to visit the wake of the slain teenager.  Then, she placed some minor (and not so minor) witnesses under her custody.

Now, Hontiveros has filed a Senate bill that would rename Epiphanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to KIDSA — KIAN DELOS SANTOS AVENUE.

The senator said this would be the appropriate thing to do to honor the memory of Kian and to remind the Filipino people of the consequences of the Duterte administration’s war on drugs.

In an exclusive interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Hontiveros admitted that the spirit of EDSA which ousted Ferdinand E. Marcos and catapulted the yellow oligarchy to political power is fading away.

“It is therefore necessary to rename the avenue to something more relevant to the times, and something that the yellows can rally behind,” she said.

New Twin Pageant Launched By Philippine Media

IMG_3442MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – There can never be enough beauty and other pageants in the Philippines.  In fact, this country of more than 100 million people is often referred to as the pageant capital of the world.  We’ve had our fair share of international pageant crowns.

Now comes yet another pageant like no other, sponsored by top local media like Inquirer, ABS-CBN and Rappler.

It’s a twin pageant in search of the very first ‘ Mutya ng Masa’ and ‘Reyna ng Intriga.’

Unlike most Philippine pageants, this new pageant franchise has nothing to do with physical beauty; not even brains.  It is open only to those who claim to be journalists seeking fame and fortune by peddling intrigue and gossip-based information to the vulnerable public.

This year’s dual-theme is: “All sound, no fury,” and “All substance, no content.”

Retired queen of all media Kris Aquino will host the pageant finals to be held at the Mall of Asia. The panel of judges is headed by ABS-CBN’s Doris Bigornia, Rappler’s Maria Ressa, self-proclaimed investigative journalist Raissa Robles, and former entertainers Cynthia Patag, Leah Navarro and Jim Paredes.
