In Apparent Glitch, Rappler, Inquirer Listed As Fake Websites

IMG_2068.PNG

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Well, forget about the glitch that hit the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).  That was nothing compared to a major technical foul-up that listed Rappler and Inquirer as fake websites.

It happened in a Facebook App (Fakeblok) recently launched by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), in partnership with the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) which was supposed to warn netizens that what they are reading on social media is fake or satire.

While The Adobo Chronicles was correctly listed as satire, both Rappler and Inquirer were included in the list of fake websites, along with others like ‘ Pinoy Trending News,’ ‘News Trend PH’ and ‘Asian Policy Press.’

When contacted by The  Adobo Chronicles, the board of NUJP — composed largely of Inquirer staff — said that it didn’t know how the glitch happened or who was responsible for the technical fiasco.

Many netizens who noticed the glitch however said that the listing and description on the error page seemed accurate for both Rappler and Inquirer.

NUJP and CMFR are working 24/7 to correct the glitch.

Philippines Named Paper Selfie Capital Of The World!

IMG_2039MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In 2014, Makati City and Pasay City in the Philippines were named “Selfie Capitals of the World,” with an impressive record of 258 selfie takers for every 100,000 people.

With the Philippine population now at over 100 million, that record translates into a whopping 250,000 plus Filipinos afflicted with selfitis a mental disorder confirmed by the American Psychiatric Association.

This year, the Philippines set another world record by being named the ‘Paper Selfie Capital of the World.’

‘Paper selfie” refers to the taking of self portraits with paper in hand which includes petitions, court filings, affidavits and other legal documents.

It is a trend now popular among members of the country’s Liberal Party and opposition, made all the more prestigious by the likes of Senators Antonio Trillanes, Risa Hontiveros, Bam Aquino, Franklin Drilon and Kiko Pangilinan; human rights activists Etta Rosales and Chito Gascon; Representative Gary Alejano; and self-confessed murderers Arthur Lascañas and Edgar Matobato.

Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) told The Adobo Chronicles that “the new distinction puts the Philippines on the world map and shows that Filipinos will not be left behind when it comes to technology and vanity.”

So what are you waiting for? Grab a stack of paper and take a selfie!

Japan Donates Military Equipment To Help Philippines Crush Maute Terrorists

IMG_1766.PNGTOKYO, Japan (The Adobo Chronicles, Tokyo Bureau) – Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has cancelled a planned visit to Japan next month to focus on the situation in Marawi City where the terrorist group Maute has launched a siege, prompting the proclamation of Martial Law in Mindanao.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe perfectly understands Duterte’s change of plans and has, in fact, pledged to donate sophisticated military equipment to the Philippines to help crush the rebel terrorists.

The donated equipment consists of two giant robots capable of decimating the terrorists.

The remote-controlled robots are said to be three times more effective that the used and dilapidated tanks and helicopters previously donated to the Philippines by the United States.
