MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Commenting on the budget request from the Department of Agriculture for agricultural research, Senator Cynthia Villar urged the Government to utilize albularyos (folk, herb doctors) and manghuhulas (fortune tellers) instead.
During a recent Senate budget deliberation, Villar questioned the need to put more money into research, saying: “Bakit parang lahat ng inyong budget puro research? Baliw na baliw kayo sa research. Aanhin ninyo ba ‘yung research? (Why is your budget all about research? You’re crazy about research. Of what use is research to you?)
Speaking with The Adobo Chronicles, Villar said the government should utilize our indigenous experts more — the albularyos and manghuhulas — to help plan and implement government programs. “It literally costs just pennies,” she said.
