One Million Protest March Awaits Donald Trump’s Manila Visit

IMG_5544.PNGMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In what is being described as “miraculously unprecedented,” supporters and critics alike of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will hold a joint protest march at the Luneta during the Manila visit of Donald Trump.

The U.S. President is scheduled to be in the Philippines this November to attend the summit meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Leaders of “Tindig Pilipinas,” an anti-Duterte movement and their Duterte counterparts secretly met at Club Filipino in Makati last night to finalize plans for the Million March.

Leading the protest march will be Senators Antonio Trillanes, Risa Hontiveros and Bam Aquino; Jim Paredes, Raissa Robles, Maria Ressa, Mocha Uson, Thinking Pinoy, Sass Rogando Sasot, and Imee Marcos who will lock hands throughout the rally.

President Duterte has given the go signal to provide incarcerated Senator Leila De Lima a one-day pass so she could participate in the march.

Is this the beginning of a United Philippines?

We have Trump to thank.

50 Container Vans Of Balut Rotting In Canadian Port

Canadian trash in Manila, left, and balut, right

TORONTO, Canada (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – Some 50 container vans of balut, the Filipino delicacy of boiled duck embryo, has been found rotting in an undisclosed port in Canada.

The shipment was imported by a local company for distribution in Filipino and Asian groceries and supermarkets throughout Canada. Balut is extremely popular among Filipinos and other Asians in Canada.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that the shipment was abandoned by the importer after hearing of the news that bird flu has been confirmed in the Philippines, particularly in the province of Pampanga, south of the capital, Manila.

The Canadian government is at a loss on what to do with the rotting eggs.

Could it be karma for Canada for the 2013 shipment of toxic trash exported to the Philippines, shipped as “heterogeneous plastic scrap materials” which was subsequently found to be non-recyclable plastics, used adult diapers, broken bottles and glasses, waste paper, household/kitchen waste, etc. ?

The Canadian government has asked the Philippines to take back the shipment, but Malacañang, the presidential palace, said “why would we do that when Canada refused to take back its trash from 2013?”

Despite the very friendly relationship between the Philippines and Canada, once in a while, the two countries have to deal with issues that stink.

Why Duterte Would Fail In A Qualification Test For A U.S. Visa

IMG_3137WASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has said that he has been denied a U.S. visa in the past when he sought to visit a girlfriend in America.

Now that he’s president, it would be very easy for him to secure a U.S. visa, right? Wrong! Not with Donald Trump’s proposed policy limiting legal immigration.

The Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act, or RAISE Act, favors people between the ages of 26 and 30 with a doctorate, high English proficiency and a job offer with a high salary.

In a simulated test (courtesy: Time magazine), one must earn a minimum of 30 points in order to qualify to apply for a U.S. visa.

Let’s see how Duterte fares in this test:

So there you have it, Duterte scores a total of 15 points, not even half of the minimum required to apply for a U.S. visa.

But it doesn’t matter, Duterte thinks the U.S. is a “lousy” country anyway.
