Senator Drilon Will Light 2019 SEA Games Cauldron

CLARK CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Duterte Administration definitely knows how to silence its critics, namely Opposition Senator Franklin Drilon.

Drilon has been critical of the P50M cost of the cauldron that will be used when the Philippines hosts the 2019 South East Asian Games (SEA Games).

The SEA Games Committee has invited the good Senator to do the honors of lighting the cauldron during the Opening Ceremony.

It will be quite a spectacle:  Drilon will hang from a helicopter bearing a lighted torch and will set fire to the cauldron, marking the official opening of what is being touted as the best SEA Games ever.

The cost of the lighting ceremony? P100M.

But in accepting the invitation, Drilon said he will do the death-defying act pro bono.  “It’s for love of country,” he told The Adobo Chronicles.

Drilon has experiencing lighting cauldrons before, as seen in this photo with the late President Corazon Aquino,

Duterte Clarifies Arrest Order Of Vapers

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Philippine President Rordrigo Duterte today clarified his recent order for the arrest of vapers.

The President on Tuesday ordered authorities to arrest those who smoke the electronic cigarettes in public  “to protect public health and public interest.”

The Department of Health confirmed the country’s first vaping-related illness last week.

Duterte however said that he was misquoted by the news media.

Apparently, what he said was that he would order the arrest of VPers — those who publicly support Vice President Leni Robredo in as far as her missteps on the war on drugs are concerned.

Just days ago, Duterte scolded the VP on national TV for her recent statements and actions as Co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD), saying he does not trust Robredo.

Now that’s clear.

Senate President Tito Sotto To Filipino LGBTs: You Are Deadly Sinners

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Senate President Tito Sotto can’t seem to hide his beef with members of the LGBT community.

During Senate deliberations on the SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression) bill, he pointed out that gay men will never become women because they do not have ovaries and will not be able to reproduce.

Now, Sotto is calling members of the LGBT community “deadly sinners.”

On Tuesday, Sotto called the attention of the Department of Education (DepEd) after one of its regional offices issued a memo calling for the implementation and inclusion in the school calendar the observance & celebration of LGBT Pride every month of June.

The Showbiz personality-turned-Senator said that pride is still one of the “7 Deadly Sins,” as per Christian faith and tradition.

Ergo, those who celebrate PRIDE are deadly sinners.

Sotto’s comment didn’t sit well with many Filipino nationalists who questioned: “So those of us who take pride in being Pinoy are sinners? So everyone should stop using the phrase ‘Pinoy Pride’ ?”

Meanwhile, Filipino world champion boxer and Senator Manny Pacquiao challenged Sotto to a boxing match for his uncalled for comment.  Pacquiao is often referred to as the “Pride of the Philippines.”
