Sacramento, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For the last time before California is split into six separate states, Governor Jerry Brown convened a summit of the mayors of the state’s largest cities, for old times’ sake.

Come November, 2016, California voters are expected to approve a ballot proposal  authored by venture capitalist Tim Draper. His proposal is to split California into: Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California and South California.

There was no specific agenda set for the summit held at the governor’s office in Sacramento other than three nights of cocktails and dinners at various venues in the state capital.

Among those invited to the summit were Eric Garcetti of Los Angeles, Miguel Pulido of Santa Ana, Robert Garcia of Long Beach, Chuck Reed of San Jose, Kevin Johnson of Sacramento, Ed Lee of San Francisco and Jean Quan of Oakland.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office told The Adobo Chronicles that if the mayors will have some down time, they will discuss strategies on solving the state’s water shortage crisis.

CARLSON TUCKER APOLOGIZES TO ASIAN AMERICAN JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION FOR DAILY CALLER ARTICLE

CaptureWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Conservative commentator Carlson Tucker, editor-in-chief and founder of the news site The Daily Caller, has apologized to the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) for an article posted on the site.  It was written by TDC’s managing editor Christopher Bedford.

The article accused AAJA of “concealing” the location of its 2014 Annual National Convention which opens today in Washington, D.C. It claims that the nonprofit journalism organization misled its convention attendees by announcing a downtown D.C. venue when in fact, the convention hotel is in Chinatown.

Tucker said he has placed Bedford on administrative leave  pending a full investigation of what happened.

“Bedford intended his piece to be a guest blog post in The Adobo Chronicles, but erroneously posted it on The Daily Caller,” Tucker said.  “We are a respectable, legitimate news organization and the publication of a bad satire has hurt our reputation,” he added.

The Adobo Chronicles was unsuccessful in reaching AAJA President Paul Chung by cell phone for his reaction to Tucker’s apology. Apparently, wi-fi access in the basement of the convention hotel is, at most, spotty.

PHILIPPINE SENATOR WANTS TO BAN RIDING-IN-TANDEM ON MOTORCYCLES; SAN FRANCISCO’S DYKES ON BIKES PROTEST

San Francisco, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Tito Sotto III, an entertainer-turned-senator, is proposing a new law that would ban  riding-in-tandem on motorcycles.  In other words, the senator believes in  “one bike, one person.”

Sotto, the same senator who plagiarized Robert Kennedy’s 1966 Day of Affirmation speech in his remarks before the Philippine Senate in 2012, says that motorcycles and bikes were designed for just one rider. His proposal is meant to deter criminals from using motorcycles in their activities, including bag-snatching which is common in the crowded metropolis.  The senator, however, is open to making one exception to riding-in-tandem.  “It would be okay as long as the second rider is a first-degree blood relative of the motorcycle driver,” he said.

Upon hearing of Sotto’s proposal, San Francisco’s Dykes on Bikes immediately roamed the city in their motorcycles, gathering signatures for a petition that will be sent to the Philippines protesting the proposed ban.

The Dykes on Bikes are famous worldwide, especially during San Francisco’s Pride Parade.  The bike-riding lesbians traditionally lead the annual gay pride parade. “We commiserate with our fellow motorcycle riders in the Philippines — gay or straight.  No one should be allowed to infringe on our freedom to ride our bikes, solo or in tandem,” the petition stated.  Their male counterparts, the Mikes on Bikes have pledged to help the dykes in gathering signatures.

It is not clear whether the San Francisco petition will have any effect on the proposed ban, since Philippine senators are known for their independence and for their penchant in passing laws that make little to no sense.
