HOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Upon the request of President Kim Jong-un, the United States will extradite Korean-American Margaret Cho to Pyongyang to face slander charges.

The State Department action comes the morning after controversial televised segments of the Golden Globes in Los Angeles.

As part of a running gag on the show, co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler introduced the “newest HFPA member” — North Korean general Cho Young Ja, played by Margaret Cho.

She was solemn and quiet at first, holding up her freelance magazine, Movies Wow, and wanting only to take a picture with Meryl Streep. Cho kept reappearing during the three-hour telecast as the North Korean general who is obsessed with American entertainment.

In a statement, the State Department said that the extradition is part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to re-establish diplomatic relations with North Korea. “It’s a good faith effort to show the Pyongyang government that America is sincere in wanting conciliation with the communist country,” the statement said.

The U.S. does not have an extradition agreement with North Korea.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Yesterday, The Adobo Chronicles published a story about a controversial oil painting by Filipino artist Dante Hipolito. The portrait, ‘Salubong,’ depicts Pope Francis being welcomed by farmers and laborers. Those featured in the painting were actually rich and famous movie stars and politicians.

Many Filipinos reacted passionately to the painting. One such reaction came from netizen Nathan Briones (via the Rappler web site). He thinks the artist intended the painting to be a satirical artwork. You decide.

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.’

Blessed are the rich and famous, for theirs is an oil painting with Pope Francis.

PHILIPPINES VICE PRESIDENT WANTS TO CONVERT NATIONAL PENITENTIARY INTO PRESIDENTIAL PALACE

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The Philippines’ National Penitentiary (New Bilibid Prison) in Metro Manila has been in the headlines recently after the Justice Department uncovered luxury prison cells occupied by incarcerated drug lords. Among other things, VIP (Very Important Prisoners) inmates had jacuzzis, sleep number beds, airconditioners, life-sized inflatable sex toys, even a recording studio.

Many have proposed that the goverment transfer the prison to an island surrounded by water, much like San Francisco’s famed Alcatraz prison.

Vice President Jejomar Binay, who continues to be the frontrunner among potential candidates for president in 2016, likes the idea of an island prison. So what does he want to do with the existing New Bilibid Prison building? He wants to convert it to a presidential palace to replace the existing one, Malacañang Palace.

“If I become president, I will relocate the presidential palace from its current location by the Pasig River to this historic and landmark prison building,” Binay said. “We don’t need to spend millions of pesos dismantling the luxury rooms and amenities at the New Bilibid Prison. We’ll spend less by just refurbishing the building and converting it to the new Malacañang,” he added.

The Vice President believes that relocating the presidential palace to the penitentiary will “bring the government closer to the people.”

“Besides, look at the facade of the building. It really looks like a castle and a palace,” Binay told reporters.
