Broadcaster And Former VP Noli De Castro Fears Losing His Job

De Castro, left, and Duterte

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – You may like it or hate it, but ‘Teeeeeevey Patrol’ has been a fixture on Philippine television news for many decades.  The news program has been closely identified with former Vice President Noli De Castro, who anchors TV Patrol as well as his own radio show.

But the TV and radio screaming may soon come to an end, thanks to a new nationwide radio program hosted by none other than Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.  It will soon make its debut on Radio-TV Malacañang (RTVM).

Duterte used to host a weekly radio program when he was mayor of Davao City. He used the program to broadcast his administration’s projects and campaigns, aside from using it to name government workers or officials who are perceived to be corrupt. He also used it to name people who are allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade. Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said an announcer’s booth was made especially for the President’s use in Malacañang.

“After many years and for the first time, we would see an actual radio booth for RTVM. It is going to be the official radio booth of the President and he would be the first to use it for his ‘Mula sa Masa, Para sa Masa’ program,” Andanar said over dzBB yesterday.

De Castro is very fearful that he will soon lose his broadcasting job to the very popular Duterte. “I may soon have to retire or file for unemployment benefits,” the 67-year-old ‘Kabayan’ told The Adobo Chronicles.

Is this the beginning of the end for ‘nagbabagang balita’ (coal-hot news)?

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) –Everybody knows about Imelda Marcos’ collection of 3,000 pairs of shoes (the number of course is debatable), but the spotlight has now turned to Senator Leila De Lima’s neck scarves.  How many exactly does she have? She is seldom seen repeating the same scarf in her public appearances.

Well, to put the speculation to rest, The Adobo Chronicles is conducting an online contest to determine how many scarves De Lima has in her (designer?) collection.

Participate in the survey below.

Netizens who correctly guess the number will be entered into a grand raffle for the chance to win a one-year complimentary subscription to The Adobo Chronicles.

British Government Clarifies News Report About Visa-Free Entry By Filipinos Into The UK

British Prime Minister Theresa May

LONDON, United Kingdom (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – The British government today issued a clarification regarding a news report published in the Da1lymail.com that Filipinos are now eligible to visit the United Kingdom without obtaining a visa.

The report stated that newly-appointed British Prime Minister Theresa May had announced a new visa policy for 3 countries that included the Philippines, Republic of South Africa and Rwanda.

The decision reportedly took into consideration the Socio-Economic, Political, Foreign and Human Rights Policies instituted over the past 60 months by the named countries.

Today, however, the Office of the British Prime Minister clarified that the news report is not entirely true, saying that only Filipino citizens who speak with a British accent are eligible for the new visa-free policy.

So, Pinoys, it’s time to practice your British accent!
