COIN POSSESSION CAN LEAD TO EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON IN THE PHILIPPINES

imageQuezon City, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The government may never recover the Ten Billion pesos that disappeared into phony projects and pockets of politicians in the pork barrel scam in the Philippines. This, despite recent indictments that have led to the arrest of top senators, businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles and others implicated in the case.

So now, the government is focusing its energy into recovering up to 24 Billion pesos from piggy banks, drawers and closets of ordinary citizens. House Bill 4411 which passed on third reading makes it illegal to be in possession of excess coins. Coin possession will lead to eight years in prison and/or a fine of up to 300 Thousand pesos.

The proposed bill has encouraged politicians and citizens involved or intending to involve in the much more serious crimes of plunder, graft and corruption.  The reason? The penalty for these greater crimes range from hospital arrest to detention in bungalow-type jails, and eventually, pardon.

A true testament to the Department of Tourism’s promotional meme of “It’s More Fun in the Philippines!”

Stockton, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Jeremy Meeks is exactly the kind of model the giant clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch is looking for : chiseled face, pale blue eyes, shaved head and tattoos.

For quite sometime now, A&F has not been successful in finding the right person to model its signature clothing line — or as some have pointed out — no-clothes line.  But Meeks is the perfect model that would appeal to A&F’s consumer demographics: young, hip, carefree, rebel.

There is one problem.  Meeks is a suspected felon whom the Stockton Police Department describes as “one of the most violent criminals in the Stockton area.” Meeks, along with other suspects, was arrested this week after a surge of robberies and shootings in the Weston Ranch area of Stockton.

Upon seeing Meeks’ mugshot which instantly went viral on the Internet,  A&F offered to pay the suspect’s bail and defense attorney’s fees, while having him on an exclusive high-paying contract to model its new summer bikini collection.

A&F is also planning to come out with a new line of orange jumpsuit, just like that worn by jail inmates. “Meeks is also the perfect model for this, ” an A&F spokesperson said, “even if he ends up being convicted and jailed.”
