HEEDING POPE FRANCIS’ ADVICE, PHILIPPINES PROPOSES THREE-DAY WORK WEEK FOR EMPLOYEES

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – In the Philippines — a predominantly Catholic country — the Pope’s word is treated as law, even when it comes to political, economic and social matters. Like work hours.

Pope Francis told the faithful at his weekly general audience at the Vatican that “millions of men and women, even children, are slaves to work,” and that this “is against God and against the dignity of the human person.”

“Moments of rest, he said,”give people time to enjoy the fruits of their labor.”

Heeding the pope’s advice, a bipartisan group of Philippine legislators proposed that the country adopt a three-day work week for all employees, so that they would have more time to rest and enjoy the fruits of their labor.

The draft bill mandates that although workers will be required to report for work just three days each week, they will be paid the equivalent of five days of work.

If passed by Congress, President NoyNoy Aquino, a devout Catholic, promised to sign the proposed bill into law.

Labor unions praised the proposal, but companies operating call centers are strongly against it, saying they will lose huge contracts from foreign companies that expect the centers to be staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Senator Nancy Binay has introduced an amendment which would exempt call centers from the proposed three-day work week.  Binay’s amendment would also grant a similar exemption for workers in vital services such as doctors & nurses, police officers and firefighters.

Political analysts are saying that a three-day work week –if staggered — could finally solve the country’s nagging traffic problems since it would cut by almost half the number of employees trying to get to work in any given day of the week.

PRIVATE CARS TO STAGE WEEKLY CRITICAL MASS PROTESTS IN STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO

CaptureSAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – The City of San Francisco has waged an all-our war against private motorists.

First, San Francisco painted the middle lanes of its main streets red to indicate that they were for buses and taxis only.  Next, the city painted the curb-side lanes on either direction green to indicate they were for bicycles only.  Now, private car drivers, including ride sharing drivers from Uber and Lyft,  can’t turn left or right on Market Street.

Well, private car owners have just about had it.

Remember Critical Mass?  It is a mass bicycle ride that takes place on the last Friday of each month in San Francisco. It is a form of protest to uphold bicyclists’ rights.

Beginning next week, private car owners, joined by Uber and Lyft drivers, will stage their own critical mass, not just once a month but every week, on Mondays.  It is their way of protesting the fact that they are slowly but surely being phased out of San Francisco’s streets.

Like the bicycle critical mass, the motorists will drive around city streets, en masse, with no specific destination.  Their intention is to clog the streets and create a traffic nightmare for buses, taxis and bicycles, not to mention a big headache for the city’s bureaucrats.

“It is time we take the power away from bicyclists and fight for our own rights,” an Uber motorist said. “Cyclists don’t need to get a license or pay taxes and fees like we do, so why are we being denied use of the streets that are paid for by our dollars?” he added.

GOP DEBATE: DONALD TRUMP SOFTENS STANCE ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

imageCLEVELAND, Ohio (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has softened his stance on illegal immigration.

During the FOX News GOP Debate last night, the real estate mogul said he still believes in building a great wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.  However, he stated that he was very much open to building a “nice door” at the border wall for  those who would like to immigrate to America legally.

Immediately after the debate, Trump unveiled the blueprint for his proposed  door at the southern border wall.

Now, Mexicans wishing to legally enter the U.S. can knock three times. No need to climb over the fence.
