Presidents Xi Jinping And Rodrigo Duterte Discuss Baguio City’s Anti-Profanity Ordinance

3639DD6F-4FC2-4C94-9692-014FB35F7F77.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit had resulted in wide-ranging agreements between his country and the Philippines, including a joint exploration in the disputed territories in the Philippine Sea.

The two Presidents, Xi and Rodrigo Duterte, also discussed the new ordinance in Baguio City — the summer capital of the Philippines — which prohibits cussing and cursing in schools and business establishments catering to young people.

The ordinance doesn’t care which cuss language is used — English, Tagalog, Visayan or whatever. It’s profane language just the same.

But the two leaders agreed to urge Baguio City officials to amend the ordinance to exempt the Chinese language from the profanity restrictions in recognition of China and the Philippines’ mutual recognition of free speech, academic freedom and free enterprise.

Baguio officials could not be reached for comment as most of them were reportedly at SM Baguio Mall for the on-going 3-day sale and enjoying the newly-opened amusement park next door.

“Ang Probinsyano” : The Show Must Go On

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Producers of the long-running teleserye, “Ang Probinsyano” remain undaunted despite a directive from the Philippine National Police (PNP) that henceforth, government vehicles, paraphernalia and personnel will no longer be used  in the television show.

The directive was a result of allegations that the PNP was being portrayed in a negative light in the teleserye.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that the first two police patrol cars ordered from China by the teleserye’s producers arrived yesterday.  Expected to arrive from abroad soon are other law enforcement paraphernalia such as handcuffs, guns, batons, searchlights, megaphones and an attack helicopter.

ABS-CBN says that it will not adhere to the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG) demand for “Ang Probinsyano” writers to change the plot of the teleserye.

We could not independently confirm the rumor that the teleserye will be renamed “Ang Foreignsyano or that lead actor Coco Martin will be replaced by an actor from China or South Korea.

Leni Robredo’s Idea Of Bail Amount For Imelda Marcos

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice President Leni Robredo, a lawyer, said today that the P150,000 bail granted to Imelda Marcos was a “mockery of the justice system.”

“Iyong 150,000 pesos na bail, napakaliit considering the enormity noong ninakaw. Pangalawa, barya lang iyon sa kaniya, eh,” Robredo said.

(The P150,000 bail is a small amount considering the enormity of what they stole. Secondly, that’s pennies to her.)

Post-conviction bail or bail while appealing a conviction in the lower-level courts like Sandiganbayan is permitted under the Rules of Court.

The Adobo Chronicles spoke with Robredo and asked her what she thought would be an appropriate bail amount for Marcos.

Her response:

”Well, because Mrs. Marcos’ conviction came almost 30 years late, I think the bail should be multiplied 30 times.  P150,000 x 30 = P4.5 Trillion.”

Well, Robredo may be a laywer, but a mathematician she’s not.
