IN STATE VISIT, PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT AQUINO WILL SEEK TO REPAIR TRASHY RELATIONS WITH CANADA

imageOTTAWA, Canada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Philippine President NoyNoy Aquino sets foot in Canada this week for a state visit – the first by a Philippine president since 1997 – upon the invitation of Governor General David Johnston and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

“In my visit, we will witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding that will strengthen ties between the Philippines and Canada. We will also thank their government and their people for all their support,” Aquino said.

What Aquino is saying in public is, however, very different from his real mission in visiting this North American country.

Aquino’s primary goal is to raise the issue of illegal Canadian trash in the Philippines when he meets with Harper.

Fifty containers of reeking Canadian garbage, including used adult diapers, have been languishing in the port of Manila for almost two years, sparking recent protests in the Philippines by environmental activists and public health officials.

Chronic Inc., a plastics exporter based in Whitby, Ontario shipped the containers — supposedly filled with recyclable Vancouver plastics — to the Philippines in the spring and summer of 2013. But upon inspection, the country’s Bureau of Customs found the containers were filled with stinking household garbage, including used adult diapers and kitchen waste.

So, truth be told. Aquino’s state visit seeks to repair his country’s trashy relations with Canada.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It is common knowledge that Canadian singer Justin Bieber is a solid Floyd Mayweather fan, always standing beside the boxer during the latter’s boxing fights, including Saturday’s bout with Manny Pacquiao.

But a TMZ video showing Bieber uttering the four-letter curse word when someone in the crowd screamed Pacquiao’s name might have been the final straw for the Filipinos.

The incident happened just hours before Saturday’s fight, as Bieber partied with a group of fans and supporters at his hotel in Las Vegas.

The Adobo Chronicles learned that Bieber has been permanently banned from visiting the Philippines, let alone holding a concert in Manila as part of the singer’s planned tour of Asian countries.

The Philippine ambassadors and consuls in the U.S. and Canada received a diplomatic memorandum from the Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs advising them to deny Bieber a tourist or any other non-immigrant visa to Pacquiao’s motherland.

Now Bieber knows that he can f*** Pacquiao but he cannot mess with the Filipinos.

BIRD FLU EPIDEMIC IN U.S. PROMPTS STATES TO INCREASE BALUT IMPORTS FROM PHILIPPINES

DES MOINES, Iowa (The Adobo Chronicles) – While some New Yorkers  have signed a petition demanding a Filipino restaurant in Manhattan to strike off balut from its menu, states like Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota have increased their quota for the importation of this Filipino delicacy.  Balut is a boiled duck embryo popular as a street food in the Philippines.

Iowa became the third state to declare an emergency response to a fast-expanding U.S. bird-flu outbreak on Friday as the national poultry death toll climbed toward record levels.

Officials in Iowa, the biggest egg-producing state, said they had identified four more suspected cases of avian influenza, and the likely number of birds affected in the state is now more than 16 million. Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad declared a state of emergency, the same move that was made last month by his counterparts in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Branstad said the state government is doing all it can to ensure that Iowans get their recommended daily intake of dairy, consistent with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s nutrition guide, My Plate, which recommends the amount of daily foods that Americans should consume for a healthy life.

“We are asking Iowans to eat  balut instead of chicken or eggs during this period of emergency to ensure both their safety and their nutritional health,” Branstad said.
