MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Television host Steve Harvey has bigger things to worry about than a repeat of his error in announcing last year’s Miss Universe winner.  When he arrives in Manila to again host the international beauty pageant this month, he will be met by a protest of one million Filipino men.

Harvey came under fire this week for mocking Asian men.

During a segment on his eponymous talk show on Monday, the 59-year-old comedian made fun of several self-help books, including one titled “How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men.”

“Excuse me, do you like Asian men?” he asked the audience. “No thank you.”

He then suggested a new book title, “How to Date a Black Woman: A Practical Guide [for] Asian Men.”

“That’s one page too!” He says. “‘You like Asian men?’ I don’t even like Chinese food. It don’t stay with you no time … I don’t eat what I can’t pronounce.”

In reacting to Harvey’s mockery, one million Filipino men will picket the Mall of Asia Arena, venue of the Miss Universe pageant finals on January 29 (January 30 Manila time)

A spokesperson for the Coalition of Real Filipino Men (CRFM) said that one of the group’s demands is for Harvey to issue an apology on live television, just before he announces the new Miss Universe.  The group also hopes that this time, he will announce the correct winner.

Breaking: Pope Francis To Fast Track Cory Aquino’s Sainthood

THE VATICAN, Italy (The Adobo Chronicles, Rome Bureau) – Pope Francis has announced that The Vatican will fast track the canonization of former Philippine President Cory Aquino, who will become the third Filipino saint.

Aquino’s family have long clamored for the widow of the late Senator Benigno Aquino and mother of ex-President  NoyNoy Aquino to be proclaimed a saint.

A Jesuit priest close to the Aquino family, Fr. Catalina Arevalo, has been leading the move to start the beatification process for Cory since she was a person with “extraordinary Christian virtues.”

The sainthood process usually takes a long period of time — from beatification to canonization — and requires at least two miracles attributed to the sainthood candidate to happen.

Apparently, even before her beatification, the first miracle already happened.

For some unexplained circumstances, yellow t-shirts (the color associated with Cory and Aquino supporters) bearing the late president’s name tagging her as the saint of democracy suddenly appeared on the shelves of a Filipino supermarket in Chicago, Illinois.  The supermarket management said they never ordered nor displayed the t-shirts.

The supermarket, Seafood City, has stores across the U.S.IMG_8267.JPG

It only takes another miracle to happen before Francis will proclaim Cory a saint.

That miracle could be in the form of the same yellow t-shirts appearing in the shelves of the Seafood City Supermarket in San Jose or Mountain View, California.

There is now a sainthood watch and vigil in these two supermarkets.

FilAm Millionaire Loida Nicolas-Lewis To VP Leni Robredo: “How Could You?”

IMG_8260.JPGNEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – An obviously distraught Loida Nicolas-Lewis today called Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo “persona non grata.”

The Filipino American millionaire who is part of a U.S.-based group that is calling for the resignation of President Rodrigo Duterte had these words to say to Robredo: “How could you?”

Nicolas-Lewis issued the statement after Robredo told reporters in Manila Sunday that an “Oust Duterte” movement is not good for the Philippines.

Nicolas-Lewis recently urged Duterte to resign so that Robredo can take over.

“We have spent so much time and energy grooming her to become president,” Nicolas-Lewis said of Robredo, “and just like that, she is practically saying she wants nothing to do with our efforts to oust Duterte.”

The FilAm millionaire likened Robredo’s statement to a balloon that just burst because someone pricked it with a pin.

When contacted by The Adobo Chronicles, Nicolas-Lewis said she has no idea what the U.S-based group’s next steps would be. “We need to regroup and think up of something else,” she said.
